Well today i was feeling a little ambitious and decided to install my used TJ fender flares on the back of my 1996 XJ 4Dr. Busted out the tools and away i went. After removing the old stock flare I quickly saw where I needed to cut. (Image 1) I used a high speed air saw and cut away. The edge turned out pretty sweet I think. (Image 2) I just barley cut past the pinch weld, so now I'll just need to tack it back in place and paint. i hope the front goes as easy as the back went.........

Usually when one cuts the separation of the inner fender to body, that's considered a mistake and not a good idea.

Anywho, your garage floor looks nice, what's it made of? Is it just scored concrete with a coating? How about some more pics of that?

Really? are you shitting me? I read thru other DIY's and i have seen it done 10 different ways. If i weld it back up would it not be just as good???

I think most people don't go that high because the extra clearance you gain is extremely minimal vs cutting UP TO the pinch seam vs cutting high enough so it separates. Plus there's the fab of getting it back together.

I think that depends on how good of a sheet metal welder you are. Theoretically it should be just as good, if not better.

Damn, and this whole time I thought I did good.... Well good thing I have mad skills with the welder. Even better with a grinder. hahaha
Don't worry I'll fix it. hehehehehe

If you have a welder you can go past the spot welds. Looks like a nice gap, clean it up and weld it back together. Just do little tack welds and jump around so you don't put too much heat into one spot.

Do you still have the mounting brackets for the original flares?

I'd be obliged if they didn't make it to the trash can and to me instead.

Karstic, If you dont get them from Mr.G I think i have all of them if youd like. Lemme know.

Thanks Allen

Even though I've trimmed my fender I have retained the stock flares (I finally remounted the rear flares after having the Jeep for almost 5 years) It seems like whenever I take the flares off I end up breaking one of the studs. So it's nice to have spares around.

Are you talking about the metal pc's I do still have them but i think one of the studs might have busted off. You can have them if you want.
