My Stroker update

after a rough start my stroker is finally running smoothly. It has a bit more valve train noise, but I chalk that up to the cam and valve springs. I had some issues at the begaining with some bad injectors so for the time being I'm using my old 21lb injectors and its running fine (after comp. adjusted) I only have 500km on it so I'm still driving like a grandma, but I can already feel the differnce in power. my auto-kool rad is handling the new motor with ease and the banks header fit great and I'd reccomend banks to any one in the market.

my stroker combo used:
258 "light" crank (perfect for an auto application not a 5speed)
258 Rods w/ arb bolts
sealedpower 677p pistons .030 over
89 renix block (it was cheap but was different then a HO block)
91 head w/ 3 angle valve job
comp cams 235-4 cam and lifters
port matched intake
banks exhaust header
dyno max cat back
bored straight TB and spacer
stock fuel injectors
cloytes timing chain

the motor was balanced and the mains were align honed.

thank you dino, your site is second to none!

 Glad it worked out for you. Your engine will run lean with 21lb injectors so you'd better get some Ford 24lb'ers in there and build a MAP adjuster to fine tune things.

I really think the MAP adjuster is not necessary with a Renix stroker. The OEM mapping is huge, and when used with 24lbers, the motor runs right at 14.7 and 12.8-13.2 at WOT. They are fine if you want to take teh time to build one, but mine failed under heavy off-road driving, so I took it out of the system in favor of the simplicity of the OEM MAP.

A wideband o2 will confirm this.....

CRASH

crash sorry I quess I should have mentioned this is in a 91 xj so I used all the H.O. electronics. I "only" used a renix block.

BTW I would reccomend the 235-4 camshaft for any jeep that's a daily driver and still sees alot of street use aka highway. the power is about the same as stock under 2000 rpm but once your up over that it just pulls hard!

Yup, I use a 4 weight crank, and it pulls all the way to 5,700 or so.

with the 235-4 cam, did you use the recommended valve springs as well? I've got the 232-4 cam and it recommends the 926 springs and 744 retainers. any other problems besides valvetrain noise? any decking or milling? what octane do you use and is there any knocking or pinging? also, do you have any emissions tests to pass? we have this damm aircare here in b.c.
thanks,scott

I'm running the Crane 753905 cam, ported '92 head, '00 block bored +0.020, 9.25:1 CR in my stroker. With Ford 24lb injectors, stock fuel pressure regulator, and MAP adjuster set at 5.15v, my A/F mixtures are just about perfect with no pinging. Gas mileage is in the 20-21mpg range.
I had a vehicle inspection done three days ago and my XJ flew through the emissions test; CO was 0.2% and HC was 40ppm at idle.

No I did not use the reccomened spring cause the OD and ID were way differnt then stock. I used the 942-16 springs they had the same OD and ID as stock but the head had to be machined out in order to get the right install height. and just used stock retainers I would reccomend useing the MOPAR springs and retainers since no machine work is required.

the head was shaved .010" just enough to get it flat agian. and I used the felpro head gasket. and nothing was done to the top of the block.

Currently I'm running 89 octane gas using the stock 21lb injectors with no problems or MAP adjuster.

I do have emmissions to pass here in ontario but I won't have to deal with that for another 2 years or when I sell the jeep
