My RE kit ain't good...

I'm one of the few that doesn't want lots of lift. I want to increase ground clearance (under the pumpkins) without raising the center of gravity too much. Ideally, I would have cut up the body to make room for bigger tires without lifting at all. I don't rock crawl and I'm not trying to make a show vehicle. It's a daily driver that gets off road a few times a year.

Sounds like you know a lift will not give you any more clearance on the pumpkins. That's all about tires.

So why didn't you keep the stock springs, and cut the wheel wells for bigger tires. That would have cost less, given you a stock ride, and given more ground clearance at the pumpkin's

I hate my RE kit... Rides like shit and flexes like shit too. I got the RE 5.5 extreme duty kit. Kits been on for about 8months and my jeep is now raked about an inch, spacers will be put on this summer along with taking those gay drop brackets off and am making some long arms... RE is a pos and gave me the wrong bolts cus they dont make them for my 8.25.........its a stock axle youd think that they could supply those? oh well i ended up getting the wrong bolts 3 times so i am re-doing the rear this weekend...RE is fun stuff if you like doing everything multiple times.

Just my opininon

Interesting.

I have the same kit. Took me a day to get it in, by myself. Not particularly challenging on the wrenchfest scale. It went in right the first time.

I guess I just don't get it about rake. It hasn't hurt my performance a bit offroad.

XJ long arms. I have not driven any varieties yet. I have seen 6 broken XJ longarms at; LCIR, Isham, Pumkin Eater (2), Sledgehammer, and Aftershock. I'll take the drop brackets for now.

8.25? Me too, My kit came with the right U-bolts...

I'd like to add something here. I run my rig. I don't work on it. I wanted parts that would reasonably last, and gain me the most capability. I got that with the RE 5.5 XD. My rig gets to the trail on it's own 4 wheels, and goes home the same way. It has yet to breakdown in any show stopping way.

Literally, with very few exceptions, it's been on the trail every weekend, and more than a few weekdays since the kit went in late July last year. I'm lucky in that I can drop everything whenever I please and go wheelin, the Jeep is not so lucky in that I'm after more hardcore trails, but like I said, no breakages, and I refuse to spend time on anything other than routine maintenance.

IMHO, I define the sucess of any particular set up on "up time". If you spend all your time workin on it, well...

Of course, since I have no winch, a RE lift and shocks, and run 33's, who do I think I'm fooling about being hardcore :D

Dollar for capability, my vote stays with RE. If your looking for anything other than capability, keep it stock.

You're welcome to come out and run with me... for as long as you can.

Good-lookin' (and performing) rig, Cap'n!

Thanks, I've been major impressed with it since day one.

Cheers!

i did a procomp lift and a daystar lift and when i was done it didnt look level but after getting pssed i decided to pul out the tape measure and measure it and realized it was the body style fooling my eyes and that it was level all around now that might not be the problem but pull the tape out and check

to repeat what has been said before.......the lift is made to be functional out wheeling for the weekend...not mainly to look good strutting around town. load that puppy up with a water jug , a packed ice chest, camping gear, a toolbox, recovery tools, and a full size spare and you'll be glad that it sits a bit butt high right now unloaded!

Had my XJ worked on at M.I.T. Drivetrain Specialists in El Cajon, CA
Easy to work with, professional, courteous, and they know their stuff. They'll get my business from now on.

What was done...

1) Added spacers to the front springs to level out the XJ. IMO, RE should include spacers in their kit.

2) Installed 6° shims and removed Xfer case drop.

3) Replaced Tom Wood's Xfer case tailhousing with a machined one to fix the notorious oil leak.

4) Retorqued suspension.

5) Test drive.

I requested their opinion of the ride since I thought it was not "Better Than Stock" as Rubicon Express advertises. What did they say?... - It rides like other lifted XJ's -

And what did you expect? That it will feel like a caddilac?

Nope, I didn't even expected what Rubicon Express was advertising...

" 3.5" XJ Super-Ride Kit - The 3.5" Super-Ride kit matches a flexible off road suspension with a better than stock on road ride. Including Rubicon’s exclusive Super-Ride arms, this kit will outperform any other kit in its price range."

But I was hoping for a close to stock ride by getting a kit that Touted "a better than stock on road ride." I was disappointed, I think I'm allowed to be disappointed.

In the end, Rubicon Express makes a solid lift kit, but their marketing department and sales personnel really go a little too far with their claims, IMHO.
