Hello Im Mike and this is my XJ. Ive posted on here a couple times but I never did introduce myself and my XJ. Here she is today after her bath. I finished painting all the trim w/ Krylon Fusion and got the bumper and my $20 Baja Lights installed. What do you guys think?

Stats as of right now are 2" BB on 30" Pirelli A/T's, JCR offroad prerunner bumper, 4.0 I-6 Auto, Alpine Stereo/Speakers w/ JL Audio 12" Sub.

Next I want to get the RE 3.5 w/ full leafs (maybe w/ the ZJ coils) and some bilstein monotubes w/ resi on 31 or 31 BFG M/T's.

Nice rig. Yer off to a good start. I'm running the RE 3.5 super flex with rear leafs and BFG 31's. Very happy with them. I'd recommend sliders, tho... It's amazing how soft and pliable these Jeeps are! Here's a pic that rpraterxj took of my XJ in Odessa... :gee:

bigmike? Your gonna have to lift that some more to live up to your name. :D

Welcome. You're in the right place.

Yeah I know...Anyone have pics of a 3.5" RE lift w/ the ZJ coils? Would I need to do an SYE for 3.5" lift?
Search in the mod tech forum and you'll find a lot of info on that.

Off the top of my head...You probably won't need a SYE, but every jeep is different.

At 3.5 inch with some heavy trimming 33's would look sweet.

Welcome to the group. Very nice XJ. Kind of reminds me of mine...:laugh3:

I ran the RE 3/5 lift for a little while. I highly suggest going with the 4.5" lift and 32" or 33" tires. Yes, you will need to a slip yoke eliminator, but it will get you a better lift and help slow down the ever so popular, inchinitis (the desire to keep lifting your rig)

Here was what it looked like at 3.5" with 31's:

Here is what it looks like now at 5.5" and 33's:

I recommend getting out to some of the meet and greets and see what folks run. You will also want to get a set of rock rails, as suggested.

Good Luck!

Nice rig...I think Im going to be building a clone of yours. I was thinking of the 3.5 and getting the ZJ coils to make it 4.5 in the front. Then I will probably trim the fenders. Damn this thing is going to cost me a fortune lol. Every time I turn around I want to do something else.

Mine has only grown 1 inch in the last 2 years. But the tires have gone up sevreal sizes :D

5.5 inches and 35's....this will get you almost anywhere.

Welcome Big Mike, I agree with Robert and John big time. If you go with a RE 5.5 or of something of the like you will bypass the first mistake we all make, and that is we out grow our first lift upgrade in no time flat. Rock protection is key. The other day I went to pick up my Desert Tortoise and as I was looking at his underside I was thinkin....Wish the bottom of my XJ had that kind of protection. Russ

LOL I hear that. I just ordered Rustys 4.5 inch lift with all the goodies, and I'm very excited to report that having gotten back from Johnson Valley about 12 minutes ago, half the guys at camp were running a 4.5 inch lift of some sort, and several on 35's! Sure, you gotta trim, and yes, get the rock protection, but I have to agree with these guys to go at LEAST 4 up, you'll thank yourself later :).

Only 4??? Go with the RE-6200 or RE-6300. I've studied, and took the advice of save your money and just do it all at once. Now I have to get tires. :) Still on 31's but I didn't have any issues with the easy group on Saturday. We went back out on Sunday AM and did the same run the stockers took 6+ hours on in around 2 hours so Mike G could find the geocache at the beginning of aftershock. Ask yourself how many times you want to change your suspension out. Throw some rockrails on it, (recommend AJ's, he's redesigning his already good ones now that I gave him some JV feedback), and set aside enough for a kit with SYE and be done with it. Oh, don't forget axles, don't polish the D35 as it will always be a turd. Hopefully you have an 8.25" 29 spline. It will be cheaper in the long run to go from 0" to 6" (my RE 5.5 kit came out at 6"), than to inch your way up to 5-6". As for Rusty's, well, uh.... I'll just say I like my RE with the drop brackets, rides _VERY_ nice, just ask anyone who's driven that kit.

There's some pics over the last year or so here:

6 HOURS?

Nope, more like 4.5 and we took and we took an hour for lunch. (We found some, not much, but some - SHADE [at NOON!!!] IN JV!!! I wanted to stay longer... :woohoo:

Mines a DD. I was thinking of a 2'' BB. Would it be better just to go RE3.5? With either lift won't I be able to get to most places?

My Jeep is my daily driver as well and im running a rusty's 4.5 on 32" BFG/ATs. And no problems with it as a daily. In fact its fun to be able to go places the normal cars cant when people are being stupid and blocking the road *wink*.

So far the rusty's kit has been great but I did suddenly develop an issue with my rear driver spring, havnt had time to get the wheel off and yank on things but its sitting about 2 inches lower than the passenger side. Think I might be bound up or something. Or that spring just sucks and I need to bitch at rustys.

This is my Daily Driver, RE 3.5" on 33's

Thanks guys. I am not sure if I want tires bigger than 235 75R15 or 29's. I heard any bigger and I have to be concened with more steering and braking upgrades. How does the RE3.5 look with 235's?

If you are limiting your self to 29's your really not improving much of anything, no matter how much lift you are putting on it. You lift to get bigger tires on and increase flex. With 29's I beleive your only gaining an inch of clearance over stock wheels. And you dont even have to lift the truck to get them on. I had 30' on my stock lift for a long time with no issues.

As for steering and breaking, up to 33' its not really a big issue, ive busted one break drum, but they are easy to fix/replace and I dont think it was because of the tire size. As for major steering issues, I think that is more lift related than tires around or below 33'. At any rate im not nearly as wise or experienced as most of the guys around here, just my opinion. You don't want to get caught with inchitis, constantly doing little things over and over to gain more clearance.
