My "new to me" 99 XJ

Lookin good!

Just for kicks, I bet you that chrome grill would look good on the green one.....and they're easy enough to swap.

Just a thought....i've always liked the chrome grill on the XJ....not too blingy :)

Yeah I was kicking that around...although I'm not sure how good the black one will look with green, heheheh. I think I may try it tomorrow though, just to see if I like the chrome on green look. Hell the grille and bezels are cheap enough on the Bay if I do.

That stereo should fit in a 97, right? I was just looking for one on e-bay... Even though I mostly listen to sports talk radio, It'd be nice to have tape and CD for my iPod, etc.

Not trying to be an a-hole or hijack the thread or anything, but unless you're trying to keep the stock look, there are much better options out there than the stock unit, even for using iPods. Here's my set up....just a basic Alpine CD player that i've had for about two years now and hasn't given me a bit of trouble, and an iTrip to go along with my iPod Nano.

The Alpine and the iTrip set up:

On the bottom of the iTrip is a port to plug in a car charger (sold separately). I also had an old power outlet splitter laying around the garage that I am using so that I can run my radar detector and charge my iPod at the same time (when necessary). I never turn my radar detector off, and I usually charge my iPod overnight on the transmitter that way it's ready to go in the morning when I am. Been running this set up for well over a year now with no problems. I keep all the plugs stored in the ash tray, since I dont smoke :)

The radio ran me about $130 shipped from Crutchfield (highly recommended, as they're almost always running a free shipping deal, and there's no sales tax :) )....came with everything I needed to make the install a breeze.

That's a pretty slick setup you've got 99XJSPORT06. How does your iTrip work? Mine's always been kind of a piece but I've got one that just plugs into the bottom and runs off iPod battery.

Thanks....it's simple, yet not screaming "hey come steal me!"

For the most part that iTrip has been pretty good. The only bad thing is I used super mega ultra extreme heavy duty velcro to hold it up on the dash, and when ever I was going on a trip in the KJ and took the iTrip off of my dash, it kinda came apart :tear:. I had it back together holding up good untill I got my lift on a couple of weeks ago and the deathwobble broke it again...although it still works....it's just fragile about staying on the dash...lol. I need to get a new one, but the damn things are expensive for a decent one. I also need to get a new iPod, as that's a first generation Nano and i've put it through some hell and it's starting to get fussy with me....and its either spend the $$$ on the iPod crap, or buy the stuff to fix my oil leak(S) (drain plug and rear main....OH BOY!!!).

I orig. had the iTrip mounted to the right of the tranny shifter, on that little bezel that goes around the shfiter, but I got tired of not being able to read the screen while I was changing songs, so I moved it to it's current spot. Another reason I moved it was because one of the previous owners of my Jeep had what appears to be some type of cell phone mount in the spot the iTrip is in now, and there was some of the left over glue that I couldn't get off after scraping off the velcro that was god knows how old.

Yeah I'd like to figure out way to mount it a little better too. I've tried velcro to hold mine up but half the time it melts off from the friggin sun.

yeah, but for an xj, i'd rather just keep it simple and stealth.

Thats cool....a lot of people go for the stock look.

And Renix, no worries about the velcro melting away....it's trying to get the iTrip off the velcro thats the hard part!

And if you dont mind me asking, about how much did you pay for your chrome grill and headlight bezels from Ebay? I've always like the looks of them on the late model limited, and i'm thinking it might be just the look I feel i'm missing from mine....and I think it would be a nice contrast on the forrest green (as it really looks good on the forrest green limiteds).

Now that i've completely hijacked your thread and all :D

It's all good bud. I got all my header panel swap stuff for my 90 from Pershing Auto Body Parts on eBay. Their stuff is priced right...the header panel sucked and didn't fit well and the fenders sucked pretty bad too, but the grille and bezels looked and fit awesome.
Here is the grille...

and the bezels...

Thats not priced bad at all.....maybe once I get the other stuff I want for the jeep....like 31's for starters...followed by lights and a nice roof rack if I can find a good deal.

damn money sucking hobby!

Haha you're not kidding bud, I've got 3, it really sucks my money up quick. But yeah...I'd throw 31"s before chrome bezels definitely.

Thanks ATMA, I appreciate the compliments. How are your projects coming by the way. I'd been meaning to pm you again...

Okay got the chrome grille swapped on...well about a week ago actually, just didn't get a chance to post pics til now, but I really like how it looks. This is it pulling my bro's boat around the block, it didn't mind going that far but I'm not too sure it'd like freeway with it. Just had to do some poser pics now that I've got a Class III hitch.

Yeah it is a really nice color. I have always kinda wanted a Chili Pepper Red XJ too but the green has grown on me a lot.
