My Jeep Grows Up

Nice work man, your jeep has come a long way since you bought that front bumper off me about a year ago.

Really you sold it to Begster? Haha... glad to know where that went after all.

Looks good!

(For those that don't know... I originally owned it and sold it to cmelo)

Ya thanks, my Jeep has come a long way since I picked up the bumper from you. And that's awesome I had no clue that the bumper came from you RCman. Don't worry, I've put it to good use.

Ha, thanks for those kind words Alex.

As for the build, I didn't get everything done I needed to Monday night, so I had to go back up to Boston last night. Had more trouble trying to get new banjo bolts for the Wagoneer calipers than I thought was ever possible, including 3 separate trips to Napa.

But, as of right now its done.

I ran out of green spray paint, as I was planning on painting the links all green. Only other color I had was silver, and I wanted to get a coat down on them so I could put it all on first thing in the morning. Drag link and track bar are at slightly different angles. I'll see if I have bump steer.

You can see all the dust on it from sitting around.

After all that, I couldn't take it for a damn test drive cause I don't have enough gas in it. Wicked pissed. I guess I'll have to wait for the morning.

Alright, so I drove it around today. Good news is it didn't fall apart. Bad news is it drove like shit steering wise.

It doesn't like to stay driving straight. Looking at it again, I can see that the draglink and trackbar are not parallel. I have the TNT high steer axle bracket, and the RE heavy duty frame side bracket, as well as a Wagoneer pitman arm. I'm going to have to look into a drop wagoneer pitman arm, and/or redrilling the RE frame side bracket.

The front also sits higher than the rear now. I kind of like the height of it, it seems pretty ridiculous. I might take out the spacers in the front, or get new shackles eventually for the rear.

I also think one of my inner C's might be bent a little. I can notice some camber on the drivers side tire. I noticed when putting one of my knuckles on, that there was a little more space between the upper part of the driver knuckle and the inner c at the ball joint. I also had to use a rubber mallet to get the axle shaft through the knuckle, as it was just hitting the top of the spindle hole, where as when I went to the other side, I could easily slip the shaft in. I think I can deal with the little bit of camber.

did you notice your tre's having any rolling movement in them?? Thats would be another culpret, you could always try the poly spacer trick, the trackbar draglink angles dont look to far out but a little adjusting on that wouldnt hurt. Nice job on the build

Ya, I did a lot of the work down in my basement, took over a corner and sort of made a mess down there. They didn't complain too much about me working down there as it was too cold to work outside when I was down there.

I haven't really noticed it, I know that they do roll some as I had my dad cycle through the steering when I was under the front. I'm no longer near my Jeep since I'm back up at school, but the RE superflex joint has a 10mm hole, where as the RE frame side bracket has a 1/2" hole, so I'm experiencing a little slop there. I was driving it lightly around town, but I was smart enough to stay off the highways and everything.

Draglink and Trackbar angles have been fixed, went back to an XJ pitman arm that made them perfect. I did lose a little turning radius, but its alright as the tie rod was hitting the driver side coil on full turn before.

Its all up and running alright, I pulled the rear driveshaft and have already started breaking in the new gears. It drives pretty smooth, I like it.

You can get a bushing for the axle side RE joint to make it 1/2" as well. All you need is the metal sleeve that is inside the poly bushing.
