My first Jeep/my newest money pit!

I don't know how/what Bushwacker makes theirs of, but ours are vacuum formed. We'll find out soon enough how brittle they are though! One small snag, my damn hardware hasn't made it in yet for the flares. If that would have come in I was going to be able to throw it on the lift at work to install the flares/lift tomorrow.....looks like that'll be put off until the hardware is in. :-/ I was looking forward to getting the lift done this week so it's more driveable. Right now with the track bar being worn and rear suspension being blown it's annoying to drive. haha

Lift and flares today. Also installing an adjustable trackbar and sway bar disconnects.

looking sharp man!

Thanks man! I got the lift done....but holy shit death wobble! I probably have the worst case of DW I've ever seen. I had to have it towed half way home from work tonight. Otherwise the only thing is we didn't get to get one rear flare on. lolol I'll post pics after a shower and a beer! :)

maybe I missed it, but how exactly did you lift the front ? what parts did you use? how tall ?

your control arms appear to be way too short, which explains the death wobble. looks like you need longer arms or at a minimum drop brackets.

LJ 4inch coils (which I've read give an inch under on XJs) and a 1 inch poly spacer. The fronts control arms are for XJ/TJ. Just curious, what makes them appear too short out of the photos I posted?

They appear to be short because the front axle is tucked close to the rear of the fender wheel arch, as you lift without changing the control arms, the front axle will move as a whole towards the rear of the vehicle, shortening your wheelbase and causing the pinion angle to strain, pointing higher into the body therefore causing death wobble. Installing longer control arms or drop brackets pushes the entire front axle to where it was at factory specs restoring ride control and quality.

heres a pic of the drop brackets installed with 3.5" springs. Ive marked in red the location of the original control arms and in yellow the original pinion angle, the axle is at full drop in this pic:

I think it has more to do with my tie rod ends/ball joints. They both look terrible, and the control arms I have are 16 inches or so center to center. From what I've read that should be fine for my lift. I think the cutting for the flares is what makes the axle look misaligned. You take a lot more out of the front of the fender than the rear, but we will see. I guess I'm going to go ahead and do a heavy duty steering upgrade/ball joints/steering stabilizer first off.

Today I went over to stumps house and he helped me track down some of my death wobble issues. We got most of it taken care of, I've only experienced it once and it was very slight. I was able to pull through it easily and could cruise at 70mph.

Stump welded the track bar bracket to the frame, it was having a bit of play.

We didn't do ball joints or the steering kit because all the joints and ends felt tight. We did change out the steering stabilizer though, and we put the stock wheels and tires back on since they have more tread/are balanced.
