So last night I was driving my jeep to mail some crap and go to the bank... That was the fun part. As I was leaving the bank the motor made a loud bang and is now knocking like hell. My cherokee is a 98 with a massive 88K on the motor. Has anybody else experienced something spectacular like this? I am pretty sure that the motor is toast, not a suprise though since I have had to go through the t-case, replace the tranny, and both axles since I got the jeep (great deal huh)

how much for a stroker these days?

Yea exactly! $2k is not even in the picture! lol I am a college student and have been trying to gather enough money to do a 44 and 9" swap. Plus $2K is more than I have in my entire jeep with everything I have done to it!

Extremely rare to have a 4.0 fail at 88k.. EXTREMELY.. Drop the pan, wiggle away, and see what you're working with.... It may have spun a bearing... I'm guessing you have little to no oil pressure now?

pull the valve cover and check your rockers. I had a rocker arm stud break once, easy fix, it may be the problem.

I am not sure how the oil pressure is, havent had a chance to mess with it yet, should have some time tonight though. From the way it sounds I dont think it could be a rocker arm. It has the worst knock ive ever heard in a motor that still runs, but if I keep starting it, it'll probably completely self destruct!
