My 1996 won't stop running HOT!!!

No. The 3 core from RadiatorBarn is 173. The 2 core is around 120. I just ordered the 3 core actually, so I know the pricing.

It's been too long for me (2 years), all I know for sure is I found the outfit on Ebay, and I paid about $140 for mine, but I am not sure if it was (is) a 2 or 3 row, I do know it was all brass/copper! It may have been the other Ebay radiator company that I bought mine from. I thought it was 3 row, but now I am not entirely sure. I do know it works like a champ.

When you're leaving it parked and it doesn't overheat with a/c, do you have the transmission in Park/Neutral? You should also test it in Drive with the parking brake engaged so the jeep is in gear, with the TC dumping heat. If it overheats, or climbs, this can answer a lot. Whether the tranny is dumping more heat than it should is tough to know for sure, either way it would seem like a capacity problem, almost certainly lying within the radiator. Ecomike is right about the fact that if idling doesn't overheat you, the w/p, airflow, etc is not the problem.

Seperate cooler or not, it still dumps what ever heat it is making in the tranny, into the air in front of the AC condensor and radiator reducing their cooling capacity.

I will try the sittin still with it in drive for a while tonight..... I have an infrrared thermometer that I use, and even after a lot of driving the tranny cooler temp never really gets hot (at least not compared to the temp of the radiator itself).

You can tell a lot with those IR thermometers!

Be sure and run the test parked with tranny in Drive (parking brake on) with the AC on Max, then try it with AC on Normal just be sure.

While you have that IR T out check for an exhaust leak anywhere in the engine bay at elevated RPMs. I recall someone having a rear oil seal problem (and heating problem with it I think) where the exhuast leak was blowing right on the rear seal / oil pan area. If you have a tiny leak that opens up under load heating the engine oil.....Just look everywhere for hot spots,:flame: even on the engine and intake manifold, just to eliminate those rare possibilities of an exhaust leak in a bad place. Lastly you can read the thermostat housing temperature every couple of minutes to see what the thermostat is realling doing. I have found the metal thermostat housing reads with a degree or two of the actual coolant temperature exiting the engine!

I have used it on the thermo housing and I noticed that as well. I hope to finally get this thing narrowed down and fixed this weekend.

Oh, I didn't realize they did biz on eBay.

Actually, Radiatorbarn , where I and I believe Blaine as well got our radiators (very recently), has its own dedicated website/store with warehouses in a few locations around the US. There are some ones that sell a lot on eBay like Radiator Doctor to name one, but I don't think radiatorbarn is one of them. I ordered directly off their website and got it the next day. I'm sure there really isn't anything wrong with buying a radiator off of ebay, and I'm sure plenty of people will attest to doing this with good results, but I felt a lot more comfortable going direct.

Is yours a CSF?

The part number says CSF so I assume the radiator I ordered is CSF....not totally sure.

Yes it is, and it is substantially more "beefy" than the stock. It's bigger but I'm not at all worried about my fan making contact. Hope the install goes well for you.

I think I got my Radiator from Radiator Warehouse, but he does not have one ebay right now. In fact I got a radiator and an 85 AC condensor both from them about 8 months apart. I have made over 200 purchases on ebay since 2000 and never had a problem, including car parts, computers, electronic hardware, lab equipment, software, X-Box.......Oh, and even Jeep parts!

Ah, I see... crap. I should have searched for them in the stores section. You're happy with your purchases from radiator warehouse? I saw those a/c compressors that looked ok, I don't need one now but I'll keep that in mind for later.

I agree, I've bought tons of stuff on ebay, including fluids for my jeep, but a radiator thats so fragile/heavy/bulky would make me nervous from an independent seller, although from the listing it appears as though it is clearly associated with the radiatorbarn website and would be fine.

A lot of companies are using ebay as an advertising medium now. Just about everyone can be found selling something on Ebay now. It is a very inexpensive advertising option with the buy it now option.

I also bought a new AC compresor on Ebay last summer ( I think from Rad Ware also, but I can swear to it). Been using ever since. I was worried about the shipping too, but it arrived with out a scratch.

Hey x2elite, any luck with fixing your overheating problem? Any more symptoms show up that might help clue us in? Hopefully everything is working.

I finally decided to bite the bullet, and buy and all metal three row radiator from radiator barn. It will be here tomorrow. I will let everyone know if this fixes my problem. I hope it does, because I am on the verge of selling the thing. I would also like to get my windows tinted, but no way in hell i can do that right now. Its over 100 degrees here alot of days, and if i run my AC the damn thing overheats. Also.... right now I have an aftermarket mechanical temp guage. What wire do i tap into if i want to swap to an electronic guage.

I think the 3 core metal radiator will probably do the trick. I just replaced my stock rad with the 3-core and 180 deg. t-stat and it never gets above 180.....it used to ride at 210 all the time. I believe that the stock rads were a little bit undersized for the 4.0L. Hope this solves your problems.

Since nobody has asked this yet... do you have any lights mounted on the front of the jeep that may be blocking airflow? I have a daystar for real bumper with 4 lights mounted on it and my 96 runs hot because of this. My fix will be a new rad and hood vents.

I have nothing in front of the grille..... i have been holding off on mounting my winch bumper, and winch for this very reason

Nobody has mentioned the possibility that your vehicle is running too lean. That will cause excessive heating. Have a tailpipe sniff test done to rule it out.

I don't remember if there was anything about a clogged CAT but that can also cause overheating.
