As many of you know, Dellstopjeep decided to part out his Jeep. I headed over to the chop shop today to lend a hand. The axles, suspension, and armor had all already been removed. Today was set aside for the power train.

This is what I found when I arrived. That's safe right?

Nobody died during the transmission removal. Motor was the next task. Darren and Eric already disconnected all the wiring and hoses.

We didn't have any chain for the engine hoist, so we figured we could use a 30ft tow strap instead. First step was lifting the motor to take the tension off the mount bolts. That's safe right?
P1060533.jpg

Needless to say that didn't work, and put the motor at an awkward angle.

Eric and I made a run to Ace for some chain. Having the right tools for the job makes life easier.
P1060535.jpg

Separation.
P1060540.jpg

Success.

Still a few things to pull off. Eric attempting to cut off his cross member mounts that were stitch welded on.
P1060545.jpg

Nut inside the frame broke? Who cares, cut an access hole!

Darren working on dash removal.

BPB showed up to pick up the motor, and pull as many free parts as he could.

Mustache Ride will live on through the Nail Salon. I snagged the rear 5125's for the Nail Salon. I also cut off Eric's stand off bars to use on my rock sliders whenever I get around to building them.

Looking pretty empty.
P1060554.jpg

Pretty much got all the useable parts off it. I believe the next step is scrapper. Sounds like Eric has a plan, so hopefully he'll update this with progress pictures.

Bastardo!

Bronze.

Part 2:

Not wanting to leave the job half done, we came back for round two tonight. Eric's first mission was cutting off the cross member side mounts.
P1060560.jpg

Meanwhile Darren removed the rear side glass.
P1060564.jpg

PB Blaster and WD40 have nothing on dish soap. Darren can give you four reasons why.
P1060566.jpg

One down.
P1060565.jpg

We eventually got the the cross member mounts off, hatch removed, and side glass out. Next step, draw your cut lines...

Fire up the Dewalt armed with the $8 metal blade.
P1060576.jpg

I have to admit this would be a sweet platform to start adding tube to.
P1060583.jpg

That's an Eric cut.
P1060586.jpg

Semi float roof.
P1060588.jpg

We decided to go full float instead.
P1060593.jpg

Shaved some weight.
P1060598.jpg

Took a quick break, Eric checked to see if the dog was fixed. Apparently he's qualified to make that assessment.
P1060595.jpg

Draw your cut lines, then watch Eric not follow them.
P1060600.jpg

The blade would occasionally get wedged in pinch points. Nothing a bit of dish soap couldn't cure. If you lube it love it.

Decided to back half it while we're at it.
P1060609.jpg

Cut out the front cross member.
P1060610.jpg

After another cut.

Want to remove a wind shield? Get a sawzall.
P1060613.jpg

Back halfed, front halfed, roof delete mods all done.
P1060616.jpg

Rather than deal with dikes for wire looms, just grab a cut off wheel.
P1060619.jpg

Heater core seemed to have a leak.
P1060623.jpg

I wonder how much Bronzewyrm would charge to reassemble this?
P1060627.jpg

Slice up the middle.
P1060630.jpg

To think this was a complete two door XJ body a few hours before.
P1060631.jpg

Bronze since I stole your stand offs, I cut off the 3-link UCA mount with frame rail included.
P1060636.jpg

Eric drilled a hole in a partially filled gas tank.

I have to say cutting a vehicle into multiple pieces is great therapy.

there wet, broken, smelly and i just had one in there in grey, the tan ones are now sitting in the rain as we speak. I dont think you want them.

I dont have a flatbed yet and didnt feel like calling everyone I know for one. Cant back a flatbed to this garage so it would be a chore moving a whole vehicle. I want to load it into my longbed truck on one load
And cutting it up was worth it.

Part 3: The Last Mustache Ride

Eric and I got the pile of XJ loaded up pretty quick. Had to rethink the placement of a few key pieces, but overall it fit perfect.
P1060641.jpg

Added some tie downs, criss cross applesauce style.
P1060644.jpg

We made it to the scrapper in Oregon without any issues. Struck out at the first place when we were told they don't take vehicles. Tracked down the number to another place (Rivergate), and they said they would take it no problem.

One Jeep Cherokee, and one AC_Blaster, 1200lbs.
