msd ignition on 2000 XJ

You can, but you have to run the DIS4 (distributerless ignition system). I know on the old DIS4 systems you also needed three tach adapters, but the new DIS4plus systems may not need them.

I have always been under the impression that the distributerless ignition on the 2000/01's where better or just as good as any high peformance ignition. Please educate me with your findings.

You can use the MSD DIS-4 and you will need two tach adapters. The new ones (adapters) are good for two channels each. There will be very little HP gain though maybe 4-5 at most. But, ther will be an increase in effeciancy as the greater number of sparks will burn off more fuel. Add to that a little crisper throttle response and it makes for a descent mod. This would be utilised best when using forced induction or N2O. If you are going the NA route the stock igniton should be fine. As the stock waste spark DIS is pretty effeciant itself.

The stock jeep DIS system seems to be a lot less prone to problems from getting wet. There is no distributer to worry about getting water into.

The MSD DIS system has an adjustable advance curve, rev-limiter, and I believe it allows you to retard the timing for use with nitrous. I was planning on running it with nitrous when I was building my jeep for mud drags, but ditched the idea when I decided to make it a trail rig. I always thought it would be cool to pull up to the starting line, purge the nitrous, hit the rev limiter, then launch it like a dragster.

And kiss your 8.25 goodbye.

It would give me a good reason to do that d35 swap I've been thinking about.
:laugh2:

Better ground clearance, lighter weight, less rotating mass in the shafts for faster acceleration, and a less rigid housing for better suspension flex... sounds like a winner to me! I have one of the coveted non-c-clip versions I can give you because we're friends. :kissyou: I'll even throw in a Detroit locker!

That gain will probably be closer to zero. The stock DIS ignition system is already as good as it gets. Save the $250+ that you'd spend on the MSD DIS-4 for something that'll give you a real HP gain e.g. FIPK or exhaust.
