Moving to Boulder...

hey now, we don't like it when "they" stereotype "us", so let's not generalize too much...

I think if you polled everyone that called themselves Liberals in Boulder, that at least 51% of them would agree the wilderness should be shut down to all human activity. I stand by my statement that "Most liberal folks in Boulder believe that protecting the outdoors means protecting them from all human activity."

boulder created the idea of "open space" in colorado and limits growth so that there *are*
places for people to enjoy nature. they take public input seriously and of course you're going
to have people on all sides of the issue, but i think they do a decent job (in general) of
striking a balance.

Boulder created the idea of open space in Colorado? I did not know that. Your as welcome as anyone to have a opionion about Boulder. I think that if MOST Boulder'ites had their way Left Hand Canyon would be shut down to all traffic, motorized and foot.

Anyway, I should have said this first off. Welcome to Colorado, I've been here 20 years+ and love it, I hope you do to. Just don't tell anyone else. Tell them it snows like 30 feet in the winter. :D

actually the first in the nation even... 1967
(FYI boulder also had the first schoolhouse in colorado) :)
Tell them it snows like 30 feet in the winter. :D
...and sometimes in the Spring too!

these are difficult decisions that i don't claim to know much about... i'm more of a moderate
in that i don't necessarily support the wilderness act, yet i don't think the decision made this
week to open up all those acres to road building and logging is a smart idea either. :dunno:

whatever the outcome i do hope my children and their children will be able to enjoy colorado
as much as i have (and intend to).

If the People's Republic of Boulder is so great why do you live in Golden???You big "Yuppie" :laugh3:. Open space is a good thing but.... I've lived in Colorado since I was 14 months old (36+ years) and I've never been to Boulder (dont care if I ever go there) but my impression/opinion is this:Its full of a bunch of commune living,self-rightous people who need to do things to pat themselves on the back to get by every day. They (not ALL people in Boulder) also seem to think that their agendas are the only valid ones and everyone else should just piss-off if they dont like it.I could be wrong, like I said this is just my impression/opinion,but my general attitude is FAWK BOULDER put it out next to Berkley,Ca. where it belongs. :thumbdn:

lol x2

jeesh jeff how do you *really* feel?!
:D

besides the real estate being too expensive for my blood, boulder has too much traffic.
i'm quite happy in golden, thanks.

i'm not trying to say boulder is some utopia, i just find it funny when people bash it based
on a bunch of generalizations or stereotypes... fwiw when i lived in NYC i'd meet people
who thought colorado springs was just a town for white supremist skin heads!

anyway, come up sometime and i'll buy you lunch (granola & tofu of course ;)) to prove
that it really isn't that bad... then we can hit carnage/LHC afterwards.

I love how the 4X4 crowd instantly assumes EVERY liberal is a hippie and actually -[(HAS)]- an opinion on Land use...

As if 51% of boulder's population gives a crap about this little issue compared to all the contraversial crap flying around related to the college.

Please don't move boulder to california!

A lot of the hot chicks go to CU and I don't like driving to Co Springs to chase tail... not to mention the ganj!

1) 51% does not ASSuME EVERY liberal! I bet if you asked them, 99.9% of Boulder'ites WOULD have an opinion; and my contention is that at least 51% of them would close land to ALL human contact.

2) Boulder would not move to CA, you guys are moving too far right for them. :D

3) AGREED. Hot chicks in Boulder...and 49% of them DO bathe. :kissyou:

hmmm good granola is okay with milk in my cornflakes... kinda crunchy and sweet if you get the right kind.. there used to be this really good cereal that had it in it...

Tofu is like flavor free rubber paste.. I don't know how ANYONE can get down on that stuff.

I still disagree that 99.9% of the people out of the 51% that are liberals in boulder would close it to all human access... most of the people who live up there live there to enjoy the wilderness and would be restricting their own access to it..

Keeping us fossil fuel burning yahoos outta the forest is another story especially with so many out of towners there, disrespecing the local land out of ignorance is pretty common and it only takes a few incidents to make us look really bad in comparison.. Likely if anything gets shut down it'll be OUR access to the wilderness.... :(

I'd say 100% of the HOT women Bathe AND Shave. Thats pretty much a prerequisite.. who gives a crap about the ugly/hairy/stinky ones unless they're holding..

Don't care what you say but hippies know how to party..

Citat - i like the way you think... make fun of me all you will, but tofu prepared the right way is actually quite yummy. theres a great thai place in boulder on broadway (in between the hill and pear street mall) and i forget the name, but they have some noodle dishes with tofu that are killer.

for THE last time.

If someone where to park their butt outside "Wild Oats" and ask 200 people "Are you Liberal?". Lets just say 100 said they were, then you asked those 100 do you have an opinion on wilderness access, 99 of them would say they do have an opinion. 51 of those people with opinions would tell you wilderness area should be shut down to all human activity. THAT'S WHAT I AM SAYING!

Hippies do party great, because they leave the next morning clean up responsibility to everyone else.

k I got what you're saying now.. I was getting confused with all those numbers..

I still don't think that 25% or more on boulders total population is anti access for all... maybe anti 4WD access but not ALL HUMAN CONTACT...

with that said....

where would you rather camp/wheel/recreate? Someplace that sees weekly even daily traffic (foot or 4WD) or a pristine untouched wilderness?

I know it's unrealistic but wouldn't it be nice to tread lightly in an untouched area and leave it just like you found it for the next person?

just sounds like adventure.. :D

BTW:::: You are obviously partying with the wrong hippies. Yippies we call em..
In my experience the Drunken College kids with too much money and not enough sense were always the ones trashing the place..

25% is assuming that only 1/2 of them said they were liberal.

Your asking the wrong dude about where I would like to camp. I have a pop-up trailer and like it parked where I can have water and power hook-ups. I would also like some 4x4 trails close by.

I think we should all tread lightly, but that's a platitude. There will always be Yippes out there tearing it up. Those folks should be prosecuted. In my perfect world the Forest Service triples in size and is out patrolling the forest during high traffic, issuing SERIOUS fines for laws that are already in place. Stopping the yippes that don't tread lightly, and patting those of us that do on the back. I just think it would be helpful to empower some forest service folks the ability to give out citations.

Or even a neighborhood watch type program to help keep costs down. Heck I can call in a reckless driver on the highway by hitting #CSP. Why not do something similar on forest service or BLM roads. I’m not into snitching on folks; though driving off the trail or raw wrapping a tree to winch yourself makes me sick. We were all there, stupid and young, someone said something to us, and we learned. So say something, and then if that does no good we should have a bi-partisan outlet that can follow-up and use this information for citations and in turn education.

:lecture: BULL SH!T over. Have fun in Boulder!
