More MPG w/cheap mods?

Been doing some surfing on the web and there's a few cheap mods that seem like they're no brainers for increasing MPG and wanted some input.

Doing this mod ^^ seems like it would help w/gas mileage as it is using colder air for the engine.

I found this mod on Cherokee forum and the guy said he gained 1-1/2 MPG and I figured that the IAT relocation+ the above mod would go hand in hand... even cooler air for the IAT with the CAI mod.

and doing an intake swap and gaining a little MPG...

It seems as though these three simple/cheap(ish) mods would benefit better MPG...

Thoughts? Anyone else have experience with MPG gains doing any of these mods?
 
remove the mirrors, remove the roof rack. smaller tires, inflated to the max.

new plugs, seafoam the intake.

deeper: new cam with a cut designed for fuel economy. Higher compression pistons for a more efficient burn. Lower the vehicle for better areo.

Your third link says there was no change in mpg from the mod in your second link. Just thought I would point that out incase you didn't notice.

EDIT: Not to burst your bubble, but according to this thread, warm air (within reason) is better for MPG than cold.

I already drive carefully... I have a scooter for warm weather. I know the other "gas saving" mods but wanted more feedback on the ones posted.

Dyno, I got some of them from your website.

@bmp, that's why I wanted feedback, one guy is saying he got MPG results and Dyno had none, however I wonder if Dyno didn't see any increase since he had already done other mods that maybe cancelled out any gain from that mod in particular...

I dunno. Just looking for feedback from anyone who has done those particular three mods. I know the topic has been discussed a lot, but these seem to be three that seem like they "should" increase mileage, or have people posting they see in increase.

I'm getting an OHC with MPG info and a bluetooth OBDII reader to use with Torque to check my fuel efficiency and try to increase it.

Results will vary depending on the mods that you've already done. If you're referring to the IAT relocation, I didn't see any mpg change but acceleration did feel a bit stronger.
The WJ intake manifold swap on my stroker definitely improved fuel economy by ~1mpg.

Unless you REALLY WANT the OHC, why not just get a ScanGage unit, which will give you many options and can be used as a code reader as well.
I have some of the 19# Ford injectors, smoothed out my idle, better throttle response. Also have strokedjeep.com bored TB, Definitely helped throttle response, combined these increased mileage a bit

Johhnie, I'm getting the OHC for the MPG gauges + ambient temp + compass and for using it as my switch panel for auxiliary stuff.

I currently have an OBDII bluetooth adapter and the Torque app as well. I plan on using both to get the most accurate readings I can to see what improvements these mods might give me.
 
I agree with the cheap car route. I bought a Focus for $1800 from a friend. Gives me a second vehicle to drive when I am working on/fixing the XJ and I get around 32 MPG once I get away from Virginia Beach.
 
Sometimes trying to get better fuel economy is about more than minimizing the fuel you burn going back and forth to work or whatever.

If you are doing a cross-continental overlanding trip it makes sense to try to get the best fuel economy you can. A Tercel or Civic isn't going to perform very well hauling an off-road trailer through a forest clear cut.
 
Honestly, this is a jeep. there really is no such thing as good gas mileage with these things.... Upgrade your exhaust with something free flowing. regear if you have larger tires. No roof rack, don't run your A/C, make sure to keep up with air filters, routine maint stuff, etc and that is really all you can do.
 
When you are travelling 5000 miles in one trip the difference between 14 mpg and just shy of twenty is appreciable.

Putting your head in the sand doesn't achieve efficiency.
