Modify a TJ bumper to fit the XJ

OK, I wasn't exactly sure which forum to put this in so here goes:

I just picked up this bumper off of this jeep for nothing. Apperently the mounts pulled off the bumper. Road Armor didn't do a good job with the brackets, but the rest seems to be pretty solid.

I have a buddy that is going to help do any cutting and welding required to make it fit. We plan on modifying it to integrate the hidden hitch I already have on the jeep.

Any thoughts? I'm kinda afraid I'm going to have to split it down the middle and widen it to make it fit all the way to the corners.

hey man thats a sick lookin bumper. do whatever you need to to make it work. splitting it and welding it back together is worth it IMO.

I don't know why, but those bumper end caps kind of look like they are from a just kidding wrangler.

Yeah I thought so to, but they are steel and a welded part of the bumper, so they aren't caps at all.

For the tire carrier would you also need to widen it? Or just relocate the pivot or latch mechanism?

Fix it, sell it to a Wrangler guy - buy something for your XJ.

I'd love to fix and sell it, but the brackets are gone. and I got this free. I won't be able to sell this used and still have enough money to buy one for a XJ. Besides, I like the looks of this one.

No, it's not on yet. The guy who was going to help me modify it, Had some family emergency and had to move down to Texas before we could even get it started. It's been sitting ever since. I'm still going to do it. I've just got to get a welder or help from someone who has one. LOL. Haven't given it up quite yet.
