Anyone have any experience with these, Ive seen one member on here that has it is in signature but I cant remember who. Id love to get a 180hp 1.8T one of these days as a DD and take the gas guzzler off the road for a little bit. I know this one kid who has a GIAC tuning kit in it that bumps it up 45-55hp, 230hp in one of those <3000pound beasts with a 6 speed (pretty sure the 4cyl had it if not the VR6 did) sounds great to me. What have your mpg's been with any of these? The diesel is looking appealing these days and GIAC offeres a kit for those too making them pretty decent (most likely gunna hurt fuel efficiency. If I ever find a mechanically beat up one for cheap I'd get it. Anyways, what do you guys feel about them?

I have, ive got a couple friends on there but they drive the 2.0's 115hp or the 1.8t's just as passats and jettas. Its a great site though and it seems to be vw's naxja. It seems like the price for the TDi's are still a little too high for me just yet. Id love to find one with a blown head gasket for cheap and go from there. Maybe an auction or something.

I purchased a Certified Pre-owned 2003 2dr Golf TDI in May of last year and it has treated me very well so far. It definitely isn't going to have the power of the 1.8t, but I will tell you that it is a deceptive 90hp (it will chirp the tires if you want it to). There are quite a few companies out there making injectors, chips, intercoolers, turbo upgrades, etc. that will get the power and torque up in a hurry. I purchased an auto (because as shameful as it is to say I can't really drive stick) and I have averaged 42.5mpg out of it since buying it. I have gotten up to 47 and I have only dropped below 40mpg on 1 or 2 tanks, driving with some intent to get good fuel mileage. I know a guy from work with an MK4 TDI Jetta that he has done some turbo and injector mods on with a stick and he averages around 50mpg and can get up to 55.

I started commuting 150miles each way for work in January and at the 48.5 cents/mile they are reimbursing me I actually clear a car payment every week after paying for fuel and putting aside money towards tires and oil changes and such. It has definitely been a good investment for me.

My $0.02

Wow...I drive for a living and I don't make that much.

My Dodge Diesel Pickup can get close to 20 MPG if I drive it right and I figured it only cost me .15 cents a mile or so to drive it.

All I can say is electrical gremlins! Most German cars have that problem ranging from VW to BMW. I know for a fact that the GTI's/R32's have a coil pack problem. They blow randomly so carry spares/extras in the car with you. In the mid years (not sure the exact years) the transmissions were made in Mexico and they tend to be "glass" if you catch my drift. That's all the negative aspect I can think of off the top of my head. They are also quite pricy to mod (if you are into that). Any other questions you may have check out the vortex as a member above posted. Lots of useful info

I am not understanding the question...a bit vague. The cars are put together in America it's just that some years have parts (such as transmissions) are put together in Mexico.

Would anyone know the percent content on one of their window stickers? I wish they were a little cheaper, gas prices are killing me and it seems any money im making is just going into my jeep....

Consider the price of fuel for two cars and also the cost of insurance for 2 cars at your age plus maintainence. I know mine is expensive as hell and I still am registered on my father's policy. People seem to forget these details when they worry about gas prices. It's just like my cousin who wants to trade in his 06 2500hd for a 1500 to save a few mpg at a close to a $10,000 loss from what he paid for the truck less than a year ago. Would take quite a long time to balance out. All you will be doing is splitting your money into 2 vehicles

Id keep the Jeep (prolly take off the road or let me dad drive it), for me to run 16mpg now vs 48 (3x) in that then Id be happy. Plus the price of 87 and diesel are almost the same. And as far as insurance, it just went from $2400 to $1001 because its been 3 years so im plenty happy. If I hit the lottery (a couple grand) id be all for it but otherwise its just a thought.
