And now the 6 hr drive home...... Yay.

I was actually going to move there and go to school at their community college. I'm glad I didn.t

That's amusing. Jeff, myself, and Flores were all sitting around the shop today wishing we still had our MJ's.

Shit......

I pull over on the ramp for Iliff Colorado to take a leak with 145 miles to go and I see this. I have no idea where or when this happened. I checked and greased all of the axle bearings before this trip. WTF!!! :banghead:

I just checked the other 3 axles and they're ok so I guess slow and steady I go......

That is crazy! Glad that didn't happen while I was following you. Lol.

Is it the leading tire or the following? I wonder if it cleared the trailer quickly or if it went underneath?

I have a commercial account with RedNeck Trailer Sales and can get you cost for a new axle or parts if you need.

You going to try and limp home like that?

Well it made it home with no further problems. I'm amazed but I suppose the cool temps and cool road surface played a significant role in the success.

That wheel musta been wobbling like a sumbitch as the spindle nut got looser. Hope no one and nothing got damaged when it took off. The threads are fine so the cotter pin must have sheared and the nut spun off. The bottom half of the threads are ground off....at first I thought the spindle touched the road. But I think its the result of the final seconds of the hub spinning at an angle on the spindle when the outter bearing spit out. Pretty sure the axle will be fubar.

Yeah the fender got pretty tweaked too.....

This just got real expensive........ A wheel, 4 tires (current ones are at about 30% tread anyway), new axle with brakes (been needing to add brakes to that axle), then new brakes and bearings for the other axle.......

Anyone wanna buy a project MJ?

On my way out of Minden I saw an Andersen's pull and pay..........HUGE. guy said they had a Comanche (that's where I got the super-nice red short bed).

Cool thing about this yard......

The other cool thing about my trip to Minden was the guy I bought the gold MJ from. He is a former Nebraska State Trooper and quite a car nut.....particularly Mopar & AMC. He had plans to make a 401 powered drag truck from the MJ but had it for 5 years and only got as far as stripping the drivetrain out of it. The long bed came from the drag truck project he started before the gold one...... Which was abandoned and dumped in the back forty of his farm. He was super hospitable, helped load stuff and let me cut the rear frame section to make a trailer for the longbed. The Andersens yard was 12 miles from Minden and when I found that red shortbed, I called him to see if he was able to help me remove it...... His reply: "Absolutely! Hell I'm a 60 year old retiree with nothing better to do than help another car-nut".

Were you so happy with vertigo in your eyes that you didn't notice the carnage going on back there?

"Mmmmmmmm....spare beds......MJ's........Jeeps......parts......."

In the semi distant future I will need to grab a shortbed, or at least the bedsides of an MJ.

If you find a bed with good sides, and a junked bed floor, let me know. I would feel bad about cutting up a good, complete bed for just the bedsides.

I will be using them to skin a buggy, thats at this point just an idea in my head.

If you just need side panels to mimic the body of an XJ for a buggy, I'd suggest skinning the sides off a 2dr. Or is the rear of your buggy that long to need bed sides?

2dr XJ's are dumb. I mean whats the point of a soccer mom Jeep that doesn't allow easy access to the back seat? :D
