I fell today.I was walking down the stairs at home and I totally zoned out and missed the last step. Definitely smacked my head. Seemed quite funny to my family who heard me yell in pain.

This link shows Marine Col Caddick wreck his F18 in 1988 on MCAS El Toro. He was the Base CO and was to retire at the end of the year. The air show was three days long with two practice days before. I had to work the show so was actually there to see this. Each day he did the loop a little lower. Well, the last day he was too low and too fast. Pancaked into the ground at very high G's. well, not really a pancake, engine nozzles hit first and snapped the bird down HARD on the belly. Enough to rip the belts out and make him hit the control stick with his face. The crash crew thought he was dead as his face resembled a very bloody beaten bunch of hamburger meat. He survived. He was medically retired after he recovered. He also lost approx. 4 inches of height. If I remember right he has pins in his legs and hips.

There was also an F-86 flown by the civilian owner do basically the same thing on the other end of the runway, I believe a few years before that. He did not survive tho as his bird went up in flames big time.
