This is a Curtiss (Model 84G) SB2C-5 Helldiver, U.S. Navy Bureau Number (BuNo) 83589, one of 970 SB2C-5s built for the U.S. Navy. This one was built in 1944 and is currently registered NX92879 to the American Airpower Heritage Museum located at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Headquarters (formerly the Confederate Air Force) in Midland, Texas. The aircraft is operated by the Cactus Squadron of the CAF in Graham, Texas. The current colors and markings are those of an SB2C in the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Franklin (CV-13) ca. 1944-45.
