Midwest Fishing!

Might be hard to see with the messy bench, but got three poles ready for tomorrow for possibly fishing.

Got my open face that I have had since 2007 (and only used once). My Grandpa's Zebco rod and reel (I think Omega 33?), and my dads closed face. Got my grandpa's lures and my dads tackle box. Might be going fishing with Sarah's dad.

everything is in the 1-4oz range. once i step up to a bigger rod, ill be able to throw bigger lures. thinking of something that will handle 7-10oz lures and 80# or 100# braid. i have 300yds of 80# in my box. not sure what exactly i want to do with it though.

speaking of rods:

abu garcia C3s. left one is spooled with 65# powerpro, the one on the right has 80# and the rod will handle 4oz of lure.

I took advantage of a sale at dunhams and picked up a kayak I plan to set up for fishing. I am mostly planning to fish some local lakes and rivers. My buddy and I are planning a few weekend camping/fishing weekends out of the kayaks too. I have seen a few youtube videos of guys trolling the milwaukee harbor and I decided it looks cool so hopefully I get a chance to try that soon, on a calm day ;-)

That is really the wrong kind of kayak for fishing. That is a white water kayak, for fishing you would really want something about 12-14' long.

Gagh...make do with what you got. Zebco has a nice little rod they call the Dock Demon for tight quarters fishing. I considered buying one just to use in a kayak that's not for fishing.

It is not my first, I am well aware of what people reccomend and I know what works. For 99% of the time a 12'-14' kayak is really annoying unless you are on huge lakes or the ocean. When I fish rivers and little lakes a 10' kayak is a lot nicer. Thanks for the input though..

itll work fine... my first time fishing from a yak was in something similar. i hooked a 40lb ray. talk about a ride. i went water skiing.

I hooked a big cat fish like that and went for a ride, he pulled me about 200 yards upstream in a pretty good current. Line snapped when he was about 4' away. Got me hooked on kayak fishing

I sold my 10' Pelican earlier this year. It was a bit too small for me. I want to get into at least a 12' angler's kayak. I really like the concept and would love to get pulled around like that. It's a new world to fishing. Gotta restore the luster to the things that you've found a touch more mundane with fishing...

That's why it's called fishing and not catching.

we need a count for how many times thats been said in this thread...

locals tips are:
- stay away from clear water
- look for the long spindly grass off the bottom
- in the heat of summer, go as deep as possible even though the lake is basically flat.
- the only structure your going to find is 1 foot drops/rises in the bottom. fish along those.

4 if you include that quote. Otherwise 3.

:D
