Kewl, what is the projected number of their population in Michigan at this time? They are a beautiful addition to any enviromental ecosystem.

The DNR says that they dont exist in the lower part of the state, so acording to the michigan DNR this animal is not there.

The ones that survive are the usually the smarter ones. I saw a Wolf in a patch of woods a couple of years ago (I'm a paid observer, I do game counts for a living) and was told I was mistaken, as there are no wolves in this area (hasn't been for a hundred years). I had the scat tested and DNA done, it made the local newspapers, after I proved it. It actually looked more like a Jackal (or Coyote) than a Wolf, the DNA said Wolf.
I shot a Doe a couple of years ago (on her last legs and obviously ill), 14 years old that I'd never seen before, kind of a charcoal color, her coat longer than normal. I'd seen her Get on occasion, many were kind of a charcoal color, which is unusual. I always figured the charcoal color was some sort of recessive, but after shooting the Doe I now know the source. Funny, how she could live her whole life in that area and I've never seen her before. She must have been really shy and really good at hiding. I'd been through that area at least 700 times (in the last 13 years) walked all the hedges looking for Deer beds, knew most all the tracks by heart, been out there early, late, the middle of the night, snow, and all the other seasons and had never seen her before. I''d put out feeders in the winter and watched who came to feed. I checked with the other game managers in surrounding areas and they had also never seen her, kind of amazing.
