Mammoth Lakes Area Trials with Picutres

There has got to be some killer streams that are hard to get to without 4x4 or horseback.

those are the kind i love.. where you get a whole bunch of cuts from gnarly bushes just to get to the stream, and you have to fish standing in the middle of the stream because you cant get your line through the bushes lol.. and naturals are the most fun to catch, stockers get boring.

What's the status on doing these in the winter? I'm going up for New Year's and thought wheelin' in the snow might be fun on the easy trails in my stock XJ...

All these trails are high elevation and get a lot of snow. The forest service also does a good job at blocking them from allowing entrance. On the other hand I have heard of other guys around here wheeling in the snow closer into town.

You could try calling Inyo National Forest. Their rangers have always been very informative and polite when I have had questions.

Yeah, I would call a ranger station and get the info from them. I just remembered that when I was up there in mid june before those pictures where taken, Deadman Pass was still closed because of some snow.... Best of luck. Mid/end of July and later until the snow comes are the best times to wheel. Again best of luck! Let me know if you need any other info about the area.

I was just up there 3 weeks ago and did just about the same. Leaving we went out Glacier View trail which was killer, super narrow, off camber with lots of big boulders. Cant wait to go back. We also saw a huge bear, don't believe anyone who tells you there is only small bears up there, the one we saw was a good 400+ on our way to Baker Creek.
