Someone mentioned I can replace the POS distributor with a Mallory Distributor. Does anyone know which model? Does anyone out there have much experience with aftermarket distributors??

Let me know.

I know MSD makes one. It costs around 400$ I believe.

Your 95 dis could be old and tired. Are you have spark problems? Going to rev the hell out of her? maybe just want shine new parts? Anyway Mallory has a very long history of making first class parts. As well as MSD Just do your homework Contact the manufactures. You well seldom meet any one that know a more about anything then the people that make it.

I don't think any of the aftermarket distributors are going to be better than a new OEM unit so if your old dizzy's worn out, just replace it with a new OEM unit.

Thanks for the information on the MSD distributor. I will check it out. As for Mallory? Well, Mallory makes a Unilite for the 4.2, but not the 4.0. Not exactly sure what the difference is besides one is fuel injected and the other not. The OEM dist can be beefed up a bit with a kit from Quadratec. I have it on my 4.0 at the moment. Is there a benefit to adding the MSD dist?

Now a days with stock engines. Seldom any help. With high reving engines, maybe.
Most after market dis got there good name in the day when stock meant points and condensers. With very lazy advance curves. P+C type distributor seldom made more then 7K volts (any of them) and that was at very low RPMS. By redline time on a stocker they were luckily to be making 2.5k to 3k volts. Duel points dis were only good for about 500 more RPMS. ANY real help in the days was god sent. If you really wanted to rev back them. Mallory made this thing called a magneto. The faster you spun the darn thing more go juice it put out.
Today with no or little help stock dis are putting out a real world 7k volts or better at redline. The advance curves of the stocker are a lot betting. Air/fuel mixs are a lot better to day making them easer to fire. The MSD system really did help with poor A/F mixs. In the end the third party distributor isn't the big HP maker it was. But the rep lives on.
Also at one time a after market dis was a lot cheeper then a new stock dis. (X mag dis) For that reason alone the after market got the job of replacing the old tired stock dis.
