I'm going on a White Water Rafting trip on Labor Day weekend around Lake Moxie or The Forks. Between rafting runs I'll have most of a day to kill so I was wondering if anyone knew of some trails in the area fit for a stock 4wd XJ and a rented 4wd Ranger. The day is Friday, Aug. 29 so if anyone knows of trails and wants to lead the way, you are more than welcome. So far it will consist of 1 cherokee and a ranger but if I get my cherokee fixed by then, there will be another cherokee.

I'll be in Maine the same weekend....camping somewhere near Millinocket or further North near Baxter SP or the Allagash.

I'm not sure where the area you mention is but if you would like to meet up for a trail ride or a few cold ones email me at [email protected].

I was just in the west forks area rafting on the kennebec river. It's absolutely awesome, I went through three rivers whitewater, who also has a nice restaurant and bar there. Don't miss moxie falls, it's a 89ft. waterfall, with some good cliff jumping from maybe 40 ft. up. Sorry if you knew this, I just got excited. _nicko_

My rafting trip is with Moxie(they have the fireboats). On Thursday I'm doing the Penobscot in Millanocket then driving to Lake Moxie. Then on Saturday I'm doing the Kennebec and Sunday I'm doing the Dead. It's gonna be a blast. I was there 2 years ago and did the Kennebec and the Dead. This time a friend of mine got about 20 people together to raft and camp out. I can't wait.

I didn't know about Moxie Falls...Do you have directions?

I went up with friends of a guide, so we did our whole trip for free, how great is that? Both days on the kennebec, first day on duckies(blow up kayaks) from the dam down to our campsite, and the next day we did the group raft trip. I definitely wanted to do the dead, but they weren't running a trip the time we were there.

moxie falls is one turn off of 201. If you're going north, you make a right a little bit after a general store, and the turn is right at a rest stop, not sure of the road name. There is a parking lot on the left side that you'll spot, and it's a .6 mile hike. If you get to the bottom of the 90 footer, you can climb up on your right side. One cliff is maybe 10-15 high, and the next one has to be almsot half as tall as the falls and it's right above the smaller cliff, but it's a bit freaky because it's on a slant, if you slip, you'll be falling onto rocks. We also did it with life jackets on because we didn't know how deep it was. With life jackets there was no sign of a bottom, and I doubt there will be even if you do it without one. I want to go back just for the falls. Have a nice trip. _nicko_
