So the wife and I have been talking about moving to maine in the next year or so, last time we were out there I seen some things that possibly threaten my hobby.

First off I rarely seen any modified jeeps or lifted anything.

Second, how crazy is the vehicle inspections? I seen adds and companies out there so I'm assuming it's a big deal. Are they safety inspections, emissions, one or the other?

It's a late model
6.5" lift
35" tires that go past the body line no fender flares.
A lot of inappropriate stickers, lol screw'em

Their are a lot of jeepers in Maine just not many in the nac. Suspension laws in Maine I have heard are very strict. Most of the safety stuff is common sense don't have a rot box that's got all the safety stuff brown or missing. Not to many states as easy as co

There see a few private off road parks in Maine plus I'm sure a ton of private land that with the permission from the owner you can go on

I know maine4x4.org it's a club up there and might be able to help you even more

The inspection law states tires must not be more than two Inches larger in diameter than stock, and they must be completely covered. Suspension muswt be of original type, so no long arms.

Mechanically everything is supposed to be checked. Pad/rotor thickness, drum diameter,
ball joints, steering joints, etc. No body rust through.

That being said, every town has a mom and Pop shop that will just check to make sure you have four round tires and headlights and call it good. It cost $12.50 for an inspection, and the shop only gets to keep like 4 bucks. Only dealers and chain stores really care.

Find lifted vehicle in parking lot. Wait for owner. Ask where they got there sticker. Go there, 5 minutes and $12.50 later your on your way.

If it has a sticker, and isn't a complete pile, the cops won't think twice.
