LS2 XJ

Will it be unbeakable? No, but it will be a good compromise between weight, ground clearance and strenght.

Mine? LOL! I would not do a $10,000 to $12,000 LS-2 swap in my tub of crap.

No, this a customer of Tylers. We will have nearly identical axles, mine are geared to 5.13, the LS-2 XJ is getting 4.88s.

It will be fine. We are cutting down weight with the engine, and the axles will be beefed enough. Like what was mentioned, there are a ton of 1000 HP Mustangs running big slicks and beefed 8.8s and they have no issues. And yes, they do run deep gears, most of them seem to be in the 4.10 to 5.13 range from what I have seen at the track. Plus... he's not running big heavy Swampers with big lugs. They are just MTRs.

Lets get one thing straight right now. Do not come in here and tell me what will or will not work when you have no idea what you are talking about. I don't have time to argue about it. Just like the mustang comment. No idea what you are talking about, especially when you even say "I don't think." The 8.8 is a dang strong axle if its built correctly. Both axles will be as good as a stock Dana 60s with 35 spline shafts.

Yes, everything is breakable, but we aren't using junkyard stuff here. This is all tip top of the line parts.

Can this engine break every last piece of the drive train? Yep! But with some sense it will hold up just fine. Its like driving your car. You don't get in it and floor it everytime you take off do you? I believe the saying goes "just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

Oh and by the way... the XJ that ran in the Ultimate adventure last year was running a 400 HP LS1 with a DANA 30 front and a DANA 44 rear on 37s. Now, they of course were beefed all they way too with cryoed R&P and RCVs etc, but the interesting thing is that through the entire trip, he was the only person who did not break anything. This rig will have another 50 hp or so, but it will have stronger axles to support that...

that xj actually ran a 30 with regular u joint style alloys and a currie 9 rear with an atlas case, just to get the facts straight

there are guys competing on 44 fronts running rcv's and stickys... the shafts are carrying about the same breaking strength as 35 spline d60 stuff. the 8.8 will be fine especially running the super kit....

and as far as tire weight my 37 mtrs are lighter than my 35 LTB's were... they should be just fine on those axles

Thanks for correcting me Doug, I couldn't remember the rear but I thought it was a 44. Oh well, the point is still the same, the front was a 30, and the fact that it had regular style shafts makes the claim even more impressive!

Its kinda sad, from what I have read on pirate, the 44s ring and pinion will break before the RCV does.

it'll hold together ;) if anyone knows what a 44 is capable of its us... with some driver skill im pretty sure it will live a long healthy life under the jeep... i know my hunk-o-crap impresses me every time out and its running stock shafts and a spool

whats the weight of the 37" mtr + your wheel/beadlock? Just wondering in comparison to what im running. you think the ball joints will handle it ok? im wondering how long mine will last.

i'd be interested in seeing some pics of the bumpers/cage as well...what kind of time frame are you shooting for on this build?

Is the purpose of this build to be a hardcore daily driver? Or is there an event your shooting to enter? Also, what are the time constraints?

E

Yes, if I may answer for Tyler, his customer said it must remain a comfortable daily driver.

sounds like one helluva project. looks like its gonna be cool! definitely want to see more pics!

The time constraint! Ha!

The customer wants the rig at The Crawl, July 4! Tyler has a monumental task ahead of him... but he has the tools and the talent.

definitely monumental. good luck dude!

awesome build! cant wait to see how it turns out!

will you be doing a write-up? Definitely interested to see the outcome!

I'll make it happen. His rear ORIs are done, and his fronts are being worked on. I will update as I get parts and get work done. Kinda moving slow right now, but I'd say that there will be major progression by early next week. We bought all of the Novak parts for the engine swap, and they will be here this week. Once they arrive, the work will get started.

Greg, Im not sure about the total weight of each wheel/tire yet. His bead locks will be done tomorrow at 10 AM, so once he has those powder coated, I'll mount one up and get it weighed when I have a chance.

The bad part is, I have to do all of this work to his rig, plus finish Betty, all before July 1st! Got a long busy road in front of me.

LOL! He even wants A/C! Gah!
