Looks like I got me one

I think I finally have me an XJ. After years and years of drooling over them, I think I finally found the one I am gonna get. It's a 1993 Sport 4 door. It's got a 3 inch pro-comp lift with springs and arms in the front. Not sure on the back. Only problem is, it's got a rebuilt title as it's been stolen and recovered, and it's gotta be started with a screwdriver. I am assuming that the ignition switch is messed up. No biggie though. It has 31 inch all terrains on it, but needs 2 replaced. I am hopefully going to get it friday or saturday. When I do I will post some pics of it.


Now, I have a question or two.

1.) If it already has 3 inch springs and control arms up front, can I just add a 1.5 inch spacer and be safe to run 32s?
2.) With 4.5 inches of lift, will I need a SYE?

1. Seriously, though, it will depend on that particular XJ, what else you might do to it (fender trim, etc), your driving style, whether the springs are saggy from age or misuse, etc etc.
2. From what I've heard on this and other forums, it is likely but not 100% for sure that you will need to add a SYE. Again, it will depend on the Jeep, the lift kit, the wear on other parts, driving style, etc. Before you drop bucks on that, search on "hack & tap."

Get it, drive it, do what it needs. Lather, rinse, repeat .

Needs to be started with screwdriver---replace ignition lock cylinder
1. Depending on how much you want to trim and flex it depends on this answer. You can run 32's on 3" of lift if you trim the fenders, you can run it and flex it pretty good on 4.5" if you trim. Search on here for fender trim and cut and fold there's several threads talking about it and with pictures.

2. The earlier xj's don't seem to have the driveline vibe problem like most of the newer xj's have but an SYE is highly recommended as if you flex it to far the rear shaft can fall off. There's several companies that make several options for sye's, there's the hack n tap method, PORC, advance adapters, and others. Browse through our vendors page as some of them have sye's for sale and offer discounts to members.

Usually a 4.5" lift will clear 32's fine. However if the coils or leafs are old and worn the tires could hit some. SYE's in my experience are not needed on the xj's prior to the transfercase change before 95. I ran my 84 with a 94 drivetrain with out a sye up to 6".

Sweet. Hopefully I can go pick this thing up soemtime this week. We agreed on $600 bux for it. I am hoping I can get it in my posession soon, so I can add some spacers and get her up on some 32, and then think about some gears.
