looking to price a lift.

I've been doing some looking around at lifts lately.

my 88 is finally to the point where i think i can start getting my lift parts set up. I've heard some bad things about Rustys lately and was wondering if i should judt stay clear for a rig thats going to be 90% road driven. I'm looking to go around a 4.5 inch lift. and they have a good price with tires and wheels included of $1388. Would a rustys lift be ok for the little bit of offroading i do? My main goal is to be able to make it to winterfest, i've got some reliability issues and driveabilty issues worked out. Now i think its time for a lift. help me to choose a worthy lift on a budget. Seems like rustys has the best bang for the buck as far as complete kits.

not bad seems all i would need is an adjustable track bar, wheels, and tires.

the 242 needs a SYE as well correct? what driveshaft should i run an xj front for the rear?

For what your talking about, I would also recommend a RC lift. Best bang for the buck and like was stated above, the customer service is second to none. I would recommend spending some extar money on shocks if this is going to be your DD. I have wheeled the piss out of my RC 6.5 lift w/ drop brackets and have no complaints. Since it will be your DD, I would suggest the drop brackets for better ride quality, trust me on this one.

I am not sure, but I dont believe that you can run a front ds in the rear w/ the 242 t-case. If you get a full kit it will have a t-case drop w/ it. That will get you by until (if) you decide to do a SYE and a CV drive shaft.

i looked at the RC site and i'm leaning toward them now. You guys are the best when it comes to recomendations. I'm actually thinking of going with the 6.5 inch kit now because the price is not to bad at all. I can buy some wheels and tires whenever i feel like it. The only thing that makes me nervous is the dana 35 out back with running 33's daily. I suppose i can throw an xj 44 in the back and be good to go. I've found a few locally for around $200 complete. Regearing wouldn't be much a problem for me either.

its just so hard to decide what to do there is so much information out there it gets confusing

I have what started out as the 6.5" RC kit and it has migrated to a mismatch lift of sorts, but I am running the RC front springs, control arms and drop brackets and have got by great with them. Remember that at 6.5" you will need a SYE. As far as the D35, since your on road 90% of the time, I would run it until you find a better upgrade. The D35 wont explode from just road driving, unless you just drive like an idiot. I am running 33 TSL's and have trimmed/hacked accordingly and have a good capable rig for the type of various wheeling that I do (running the c8.25). My only draw back to the RC kit is the track bar, but GRIMUS99XJ told me that they are working on resolving the problem with the tierod end and going to a heim set up.

i would say RC since they have a discount. Rustys has held up well on my buddies 01 but his is a Stereo comp vehicle. Don't ask. Has never done any serious off roading and its on 37s

i just got my rustys lift in the mail today gonna install it this weekend ande will keep ya guys informed about any problems, if your gonna get this system spen the extra 80 bucks and get the forged flex ends fricken bullet proof and rustys has upgraded there leaf springs so they dont sag prematurly.

I have the 6.5 lift on my 89 xj, i had to do the 1" t-case drop.. I have NO vibs.. So get the t-case drop from them too. My 2 cents
