looking into buying first lift..

Rough Country. They are a NAXJA Sponsor and prices are very reasonable. I have been running their set up for years with no problems at all.
 
They're pretty much all the same really. Just different types of shocks like nitro, or hydro. What you have to look for now is who has the better deal and offers the most reliable warranty.
 
So, since I am a member and RC is a NAXJA sponsor; I get the discount on any RC purchase right? Doesn't have to be for an XJ? Because if that's the case; I'm ordering a 2" for my WJ and the S-10! :D Just sold my oven guys!
 
How much are you looking to spend? There are several budget boost junk yard options that will get you a little lift without breaking the bank. It is senseless to spend $250-$300 on a 2-3in lift if you know you might want to go bigger later.

For the rear you can make a bastard leaf pack out of S-10 springs and get anywhere from 1-4 inches but you'll need a longer brake line and if you go higher than 2" probably a SYE.

For the front there are several different options available, like F-150 coils, they will net about 3 inches.

Just ideas worth considering.
 
yea i dont think i wanna go bigger than 3 inches because this is my daily driver and i dont wanna get too wild with it...and i will have some money in a month or two so right now im just researching and checking my options out. but i want to try to keep it under $400-350

Nope. never had to get longer lines with my 2" of upness. i do now though, snce my back end is higher now.
 
For $400-$500 I would go with the RC 4.5 inch kit. That is just my opinion though. I daily drove mine with that lift for almost 2 years.

Normally consist of coil spring spacers for the front and either an addaleaf or lift shackles or blocks for the rear. blocks suck.
 
I would do a zj v8 coil up front with spacers and then do a 3 inch spring in back (bastard pack or actual spring and shackle) ran like that until i went higher and i enjoyed my jeep just as much then as i do with my jeep know. flexed great and rode well.

Uh...this is not a true statement. Different set-ups provide different comfort, road manners, and flex.

Also, as it seems with most things XJ related, the result vary with each particular vehicle. Some kits claim to be 3" but net more and others net less.

As always, my advice is the same. Learn to drive it in stock form. When you're driving abilities surpass the vehicle's capabilities it's time to build. Before purchasing the first item for the build, plan the build. Know exactly what you are hoping to achieve and how you want the vehicle to perform (in all areas of use) before you do anything else. It's not about speed in this game, it's about precision; and that applies to the build process too.
 
At what lift height would you need to get longer break lines? what would need to be changed, if anything, if i got a 2 or 3 inch lift??
