Looking for Stats Calculator...software.

I'm taking yet another class that means nothing toward my degree but is required anyway. This one is a Statistics class, and therefore we need a statistical calculator. It looks like most folks in the class have a TI-89, which runs about $140...I paid only $100 for my laptop, but I actually USE that. The calculator would be a massive waste of money that I don't have.

My professor said Excel apparently doesn't have the functions I need, so what else is available, or is she wrong? I can use the laptop if I can find some software to do the number-crunching...

Uhh... just google "statistics software"... there's a bunch of it out there that runs on Excel...

Gee. Never F***ing considered that. Do you have any actual recommendations, since there's only about 8,250,000 hits for 'statistics software'

XL stat works pretty good. Plugs into Excel. I prefer Graphpad PRISM, personally. It's easier to use.

Ok Buckwheat.... re-read your post. Where do you state you want real life, actual user inferred recommendations on statistics software? Where? I keep looking at it and nothing OBVIOUS jumps out. Wait.. let me look again between the lines... nope...nothing ...still nadda....

So... I'm suppose to telepathically be able to read your mind to understand what you really meant. Next time I will run your post through a "What I really mean in my post" super decoder translator.

All you state is that your Prof says there's nothing for Excel. I did a Google search and the first hit comes up with Excel applications, so at least I proved your Prof wrong..

Maybe your post would have made more sense you actually typed in what you wanted.... :dunce:

Hmmm well to get all the functionality in excel when you install it there is one of the options that needs to be selected. Anyways when I was doing my undergrad I had to take a stats class and Excell was perfect.

Actually, what I stated was "My professor said Excel apparently doesn't have the functions I need" - nowhere does that say I was looking for apps that would work with Excel. It looks like I've found what I need in spite of your "help"

-edit- this is why I don't post early in the morning, I completely mis-read things.

You might want to check out Virtual TI, you can load in the ROM image of a TI-83 or a TI-89 and you'll have the calc there on your computer.
