I searched a little and couldn't really locate a solid answer, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
I have a 95 with an 8.25" 27 spline rear, it's open for now. I need new tires soon and I'm going to lift it before I buy the tires so I can run 32's or 33's. I've been wheeling it for awhile stock with 30's and I want to move up. I don't really have the cash to go to 31's then to 33's and all that so I'd like to just move to 33's. Please don't flame me for this.
Question is: Is it a time bomb locking an 8.25" with a No-slip, adding 4.56 gears, and putting a stroker in front of it? I'm already in the process of building the engine and I have a 9" Ford I'm gonna start working on soon. So this 8.25" will be temporary, but I don't want to run stock gears on 33's and I might as well lock it, or maybe just put a LS in...
Should I just regear and leave it open and save my coin for the 9", or lock and gear the 8.25 for now? How long can I expect to run the 8.25, locked, with 33's, with a stroker? I know it is a toss up question, but I don't wanna be afraid to run it. The Jeep is used mainly for mud and trails, no rocks. Thanks for any advice.
