Hey all,

Looking to get powdercoat on a Warrior roof rack blasted off. Anyone know a decent affordable place?

If anyone does it themselves I can buy media and beer if you are willing to help me out. I could also trade various parts, like stock axles, a couple shocks, stock steering...a bunch of stuff with minimal value. Oh, or a 32 inch LCD tv

are you talking about the factory coating? have you tried burning it off with a torch? a thin electrostatic coating can be burned off with a torch if you are careful and keep the heat uniform.
a heavy powder coating can be a real bitch to remove. might be better off sanding and prepping it and leaving it as a primer.
a call to a powder coating shop will give you more ideas as well.

Yeah this stuff is a nightmare, I tried paint stripper and wire wheel without much luck. Where it chipped and got rusted it just bubbled up and peeled right off. Everywhere else, it doesn't come off easily at all. Not to mention its a roof rack so the time it would take to get every bar by hand would be a nightmare. I HATE powdercoat. Maybe I will hit it with a pressure washer, a quic hand sand and primer?

I am not familiar with the rack you mention, but if it is aluminum, the only thing you can really do is sand it, and even that is a bitch. The paint is harder than the aluminum and it is impossible to get it flat.

You have hope if the rack is made from steel, using sandblasting.

this is exactly why I'd never powdercoat anything. They charge an arm and a leg for parts that have the coating. Once it chips rust forms under the coating. Ive only heard of guys burning it off then sandblasting the mess afterwards.

Just a waste of money... I just rattle can my stuff & smile
