I was just wondering if people knew of any decent junk yards in the greater boston area... im located in the newton/wellesley/natick area.. i know of the one in waltham off 128 and Rich's in hudson.. but these never seem to have anything. I was curious if anyone knew of decent junkyards around this area.
thanks
mike

if you search www.car-part.com for something specific, it will show you a few in the area that have XJ stuff. there is Goldie's in Walpole, rt 1a, a whole bunch in Brockton, Bridgewater, Middleborro, one (or two?) in Millis, and a bunch spread all around.

Millis Used Auto on Rt109 or something in Millis always has a bunch of jeeps and stuff. I used to go there a bunch when I was JY hunting for stuff. Couple of the guys are jeepers too, fair prices and good selection.

Everett's in Brockton usually has some stuff. Haven't been out there in years.

I know a lot more yards out toward Worcester, but that's kinda out of your way.

well im on the prowl for some axles and when i was at crown automotive i asked them where i could find such axles with :410 gears from a junkyard... and they told me to go to your house Ken.....

I only have one 4.10:1 axle here and you really don't want it... it is a dana 35.

its funny because he was right.
but do u know if all those 2.5l 5spd xj's (having 410's) had 35 rears?

i like henrys in blackstone., but there hasnt been many intersting things there recently.

The newer ones, 96 or 97 and up?, should have 8.25's, but you'll have an easier time finsding an 8.8, which is a better axle to begin with. Like Jeff said, carpart is a great site to use, that's how I found my 4.10 HP30 a few years back.

Also, Sam's in Worcester usually has a decent selection of Jeeps, if Ken doesn't beat you to all to goodies.

BTW, we're wheeling this Sunday, PM me if you want to come.

MOST mid-early 90s and later XJs are going to have 8.25s, unless they are ABS or the factory ran out of 8.25s that day.

Rear - if you can't find a 4.10 8.25, go 8.8 like Pat said.
Front - find a 4cyl 5 speed.

I don't really pull XJ parts anymore unless they're something I am looking for.

edit: if you use car-part, VERIFY THE AXLE RATIO BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM A DAMN CENT! 90% of junkyards have their heads up their asses when it comes to ratios. Ask me how I know, I drove to ****ing walpole for a "3.55 geared YJ dana 30" that a yard claimed they had, turns out they never even looked at the tags on the diff, just went off what some chuckle**** in the office thought they knew and threw it in car-part for sale with 3.55s. Turns out they had a bunch with 3.07s and a bunch with 4.10s and nothing else. They even had the balls to tell me they "VIN verified" that it had 3.55s before putting it in car-part. Basically, if you don't count the teeth on the ring/pinion and do the math yourself, don't pay for it.
