Limiting straps for rock crawling.

Nobody running limit strap son an XJ then? Are Bilstein 5100's not worth protecting? What if you were running those adjustable Fox 2.0 performance shocks w/ext reservoir? They are around $380 per shock.

About how many bottom outs can these Bilstein 5100's take before they fail?

I'm running Fox Factory 2.5s with ext reservoirs, no limit straps.

With 10-12" shocks, most stock replacement springs droop out prior to the shock topping, so there's only the axle weight on the shock. The rebound valving meant to deal with the spring AND the weight of the axle should prevent any harsh topping (i.e. only blown shocks smash into the top out stop with no preload), and the internal construction of a Fox Factory is more than capable of holding up an axle.

Doesn't mean they're useless, but on a Jeep, I don't think they're entirely necessary. Chances are you'll eat the seals and need a rebuild before you kill anything in the shock from topping out anyway.

On my buggy, they're absolutely necessary since my CVs will bind before the shock tops out.
