so i was bored at work and i got to thinking about small projects i could do on the xj. one of which were removeble limb risers that would be tied in from my front bumper (karnage offroad bumper off ebay) and then tie into my roof rack mounted basket. just woundering if anyone else has done it or if anybody has pics or suggestions of it being done. or if it is just a gay idea all together. i also may be fabricating pillar light mounts or using unity police lights havnt decided which would look better. that would be the point of doing the limb risers to protect the lights and windshield somewhat.

Remove-able risers? Not stupid at all, if you need them. Maybe a little silly if you leave them on for the 26+ days a month you're not on the trails, though. 
yea id probibly make them out of some kind of metal wire similar to winch line then put like an eye hook in each attachment point and on the end of the line those clap that they use on dog leashes or something then i can take em off during the week,roll them up, and stow them in the back till the weekend when i spend most of the day and sometimes the night wheeling.

I've considered it as well, I've had my am/fm antenna ripped off from larger branches.

unscrew it before wheeling, all you need is a smallish wrench or a leatherman, after the first half turn it'll spin by hand

when bored we take them off and practice fencing
i was reading a wright up on some landrover forums and xterra forums and it seems pretty straight foreward on making some just a turnbuckle some line and like a carribeaner or fastener of choice and there ya go instant removable limb risers and no more cracking my windshield when im bush whacking

I have 'em on my TJ and absolutely love 'em! I never remove them, though they do just unscrew and come off.

Do you have any pictures or anything ? I was thinking about attaching them from my brush guard to my roof basket.
thats the same setup i was considering. i was going to have a turnbuckle setup or something so i can adjust tension in the line and make it removeable and then have eyes at either end and i havent decided on how to attach them. i was thinking of fabing up a semi stealthy mount on my bumper that looks good with and without the risers and I havent really decided on how i want to mount it to my basket i was thinking of possibly using an eye hook or some other form of attachment....im up to suggestions if anyone has any
