Lift Kit Help PLEASE!!!!

I am trying to decide which lift kit to purchase, the RE 6300 Long Arm Kit, or to wait for the new Full traction 6" Long Arm Kit.(Who knows what it will cost, it is supposed to be available in November 2004) The other option I am considering is to purchase only the front half of one of the previously mentioned kits, and run the Teraflex Grand Up rear, which gets rid of your leaf springs and converts to coil springs. I am looking for a bolt on front kit that doesn't require cutting. I have never purchased a lift from any of these companies.

I also understand that with a 6" lift I will need a Slip Yoke Eliminator, and a CV rear Driveshaft, will the front also need to be replaced? Also can anyone recomend a good reasonably priced brand, the SYE range dramatically in price.

I am fairly confident I want to go 6" but want to know if they perform satisfactorily on road, and are safe. The Cherokee is our extra car, but to get to the four wheeling areas we will need to drive it there.

I am open to suggestions and would value your opinions and comments. We are talking about a decent amount of money whichever route I choose.

On a closing note, who to purchase from for the best cost?

A lot of that fluctuation is based on the type of SYE, and there are two major differences in the t-case you are using as well, assuming it's a NP231 'Command-Trac'. These differences are based on the two types of output shaft on the NP231; yours is one of the last old-style ones and will be a bit more expensive because of that.

Type 1: Hack-n-Tap. On your XJ it will be a multi-piece affair, this is RE's 1801 kit.

After removing the rear driveshaft you cut the exposed tailshaft per instructions, install a seal on the rear of the t-case, drill a hole, tap it and install the mounting flange for the (new) rear driveshaft.

The other version of this includes the 96+ Cherokees, and is a one-piece kit so it is often less expensive. This includes REs 1807 kit. Since the tailshaft in the later-model year XJ is already sealed you simply remove the driveshaft and cut. Drill and tap, and install the new flange. The more expensive route involves cracking the t-case and replacing the entire output shaft, and you see some large differences in price at this point depending how complete the kit is and whether they charge core fees for your old tailshaft. An example of this would be REs 1811 SYE kit for the NP231

Well considering the fact that RE's LA kit is still not being sold yet you will have time to figure out what you want to do. There are some of us that cannot wait for the lift companies to give us what we want so we have to build it ourselves.

As far as a complteely bolt on set up I would recomend doing some reinforcing welds to make sure things dont slip after time.

I do not know the Grand UP rear lift you are talking about but coils would be really cool.

If you have a 96'+ and you but the "Hack and tap" it is real easy to put the tranny in drive ( with the rear DS off of course) and so you can get a clean straight cut on the shaft. This alsoreduced the cut time for me and had installed the kit in about 30 min.

I have a 95 Cherokee SE, so it sounds like I have two choices and the install will be a little more dificult unfortunatley.

I do not know the Grand UP rear lift you are talking about but coils would be really cool.

XJ "Grand UP" Rear 6" for 35 axle (3 boxes)
(S6XR-35)

Description: The Grand Up rear coil-conversion system replaces the XJ’s leaf springs with coils. The Grand Up provides six inches of lift to clear 32x11.50s with no trimming. It gives the Cherokee the flex and performance for which TeraFlex is known. The Grand Up is mostly a bolt-on kit. The only welding required is to attach control arm bracketry, and spring pads to the axle.
The ‘Grand Up’ is available for the Chrysler 8-1/4” axle (Part #S6XR-825) and the Dana 35 axle (Part #S6XR-35). The rear Grand Up kit is designed to be used with the front component bundle (Part #S6XF-BUNDLE).
Each S6XR includes:

2 Coil springs
2 Lower control arms
1 Upper A-arm assembly
1 A-arm pivot mount
1 Bolt-on A-arm axle mount
2 FlexArm mount brackets
4 Weld-on FlexArm axle mounts
2 Urethane bump stop extensions
2 Aluminum bump stop extensions
Sway bar kit: A rear sway bar kit is recommended for use with this suspension (Part #S6X-RSB). Short shaft kit: This kit should be used in combination with a short shaft kit (Part #231SS).

I am at about 5.5" and mine drives fine as long as you keep everything tight. A rig setup for crawling requires maintenance and checking of things. Replace worn bushing, keep bolts tight, keep caster in check and you'll be fine. As for an SYE, I have had the RE hack and tap for 2+ years with no probs, and thats Rubicon, Moab, etc.

I have decided on the Full Traction Kit

I spoke to Full Traction today, and they are shooting for a January 2004 shipping date of their new kit, the person I spoke to said the kit will retail for $1499.99, which is a great deal I think for what you get. They also told me that their might be plans for a 4 link rear end Leaf to Coil Springs conversion kit in the future, they are considering it. If they take this path then all of the components of the front end kit will be the same, and you would just order the rear kit by itself. I was also told they will be sponsoring a Jeepspeed Cherokee next year that will use this exact kit, just with heavier springs due to the punishment they put their race trucks through bareling through the deserrt at high speeds. The guy I spoke to was very knowledgable and told me that when the kit is finally launched they will give a ton of info about it out on their web site, including ramp results. The person I spoke to had just purchased a 1996 XJ and is going to install this kit on it and use it as a hunting rig. I am in Washington, and they curently do not have any dealers in the area but I was told I could purchase the kit direct, and not pay any tax as long as I didn't liv In Cali. I would need to pay the freight of course....

Decision one solved now onto all of the other decisions I need to make, like who makes the best SKIDS, and which winch to buy, which bumper, and where in the heck am I going to get the money for all this?
