Life's simple pleasures...

I was in the bookstore the other day and noticed that Michael Moore *spit* has a new book out called "Will they ever trust us" and has the premise of being letters from soldiers in Iraq/Afganistan who are dissapointed with the lies ("lies") told to them by the guberment.

On the same shelf I found a book called "What's so great about America" by an Indian immigrant who is dissapointed with the appologies modern Americans make for love of their country, faith in the high ideals and conservative values. Found here-

Anyway, the highlight of my day came when I simply placed the "What's so great.." book over the top of Moore's book. I do the same thing every time I see one his videos, every little bit helps.....

:D

You know, everytime I see a Micheal Moore book or one of his movies, it gives me hope that some people are thinking about things in a critical manner. Maybe even disagreeing from time to time with the mainstream. And not jsut towing a party or religious line.

**poke, poke** :D

No argument here - I do all I can to provoke independent thought in Kalifornistan....

However, I have a hard time believing that michael moore is also a practitioner of "independent thought" - he spends most of his time "toeing" the line currently favoured by most Liberal Democrats - starting with slamming the country that does its level best to give him the freedom to do so.

Not that I'm in favour of censorship - far from it. However, if you don't like this country that damn much - no-one's keeping you here, and I think we'd be better off if you'd just up and leave. And don't come back. If you think other countries are so damn great, we're not keeping you here. That's the great thing about America - you're free to do pretty much anything (within reason,) including LEAVE!

Now, when I first read this title ("Life's Simple Pleasures,") I'd thought it would be about something else entirely.

Like what? How about something like a water glass full of Parrot Bay, an Acid Atom Maduro or a Partagas 8-9-8 that I just lit, and knowing that my wife won't rabbit on at me about either one. She has a difficult time around cigar smoke (which is why I smoke outside or in the garage,) but she always likes they way I smell after I finish - kinda gives a "home" feeling to things, like when I light up my pipe with a nice Cavendish blend, or perhaps a Burley...

That, to me, exemplifies the idea of "simple pleasures." Good booze, a good smoke, and no-one experimenting with their mortality by bitching at me about either one...
