license plate bulb

I noticed that the rear license plate bulb on my 96 xj was out. I purchased new bulbs and installed it but it still wont light. the wiring harness is in good condition with no breaks in the wires. Would this light have its own fuse or would it be part of a larger circuit?:read:

You already traced the wire harness checking for breaks? Sounds like way too much work too soon. Should be part of the tail light circuit. Do your tail lights work? They must or you would have noticed. Sometimes the contacts at the base of the bulb stick down and need to be worked up a little bit. Check in the socket with a test lamp or voltmeter.
