Hey all, I've been lurking for quite some time but let me take a moment to show you who I am. My name is Brett and have been off roading for 10 years and some. When I was young my dad would take my brother and I out on his lap to let us drive off road. I got my first rig when I was 16 and have been wheeling ever since.
I have had a life changing accident in October of 2005 that left me in a wheelchair for life. I was in Deaumont dunes and was struck by a buggy at the top of a dune while riding with some friends on my fully built drag Honda Fourtrax 250R. I was air lifted to UMC Las Vegas and spent a month there before being transported to Loma Linda university for another year of physical therapy. I had a severed spine, 4 broken ribs, broken clavical and most serious a punctured lung that took a total of 5 minutes of my life at different times. Needless to say I am thankful to be alive.
Months after my accident my girlfriend of 5 years was still by my side and I decided it was time to get married. We had an amazing wedding in San Clamente. I could not be happier. When people ask me about stem cell research and if I will be able to walk again I tell them I would rather the technology be used to help a quadrapelegic get his arms back and I would trade that for my legs anyday.
When in age get a cage, so here is my XJ purchased bone stock a year and a half after my accident. My brother and I work on it almost every weekend and enjoy every moment of it. It took some time to get the hand controls down but I can wheel with the best of them now. I am more limiteed with the capabilities of my Jeep than I am with my driving abilities. It was a learning curve but we all go through this in every aspect of life.
Hope to see you guys on the trails soon.
