Legal trails in northern IL?

I'm looking for some mild tails to work the bugs out of my rig, does anyone know of any mild (park or private) that are open on the weekends and are within 50 miles of DuPage Co.?

I found The Cliffs, but I'm looking for mild, to test out the basic mechanicals of the truck aka cooling system at slow speed for a prologed period of time, oil temps, etc.

some friend was telling me about a place called Crystal lake... idk about it myself.. but it might be worth checking out...

Crystal Lake is a town. Not that I am an expert on it, but I am unaware of a legal off-road park in there. It certainly would be nice, because i have some friends that would love to make a shorter jaunt to off-road with me than what the drive to badlands is.

So if you have anymore specifics let me know, I will be more than happy to check it out.

Otherwise I am unaware of anything close than the Cliffs. Unless you are in a off-road club that has a piece of property some where. I never took the time to join any clubs, so I am unaware of any such properties.

Stay on trail 1 at the Cliffs and you can go around the entire park, have some fun, do your testing, all in a stock XJ easily. And yes, you can cross the creek and go to your right very easily in a stock rig. get a map from Cooter or even better, get one of us to play guide.

I'm game. If you're worried, I'll let my little guy drive. He knows his way around the Cliffs pretty well.

You forgots about Lake Geneva by the racetrack. Private and costly but still "legal." (appointment only)

Too bad... it was decent for newbies. Best time there was a 4X4 familiarization run there with salesmen from many area Jeep dealers so they'd have some idea what the vehicles can do.

That and a Winter run with some kid and his girlfriend in a totally open buggy drop it through almost a foot of ice into 3 feet of water. Trashed both axles and his front steering trying to grind and climb over the busted ice. Pulled out chunks of ice from under his rig that were like chunks of concrete.

Finally got it pulled out with like 3 winches to it. Pushing it back up onto his trailer was a joy too! :nono:

I *might* be going to the cliffs in the afternoon on saturday to see how the YJ does. I hadn't fully made up my mind yet, but I could probably be talked into it.

Let me know.

This coming weekend there is a group going to Attica. I will be there on the easy trails Saturday just to sort things out before Winterfest....it is only 3 hours from here (Plainfield area)

Close and easy...and a great chance to meet some of the legends of NAXJA.
