so i plan to use a 8.25 axle and build a 5x6 flat bed trailer.

how much crap is the DMV going to give me?
how high can i make it?(so i dont need a drop hitch)

brakes? any ideas on it. i'v seen systems that senses when the vehicle is decelerating. but how would it use the brakes w/o a master cylinder?
is it even worth putting brakes on a small flat bed?

the final question. would it b worth building a flat bed or just buying one?

just any general info would be awsome.

depends on what you are using it for. i bought a 4x8 folding trailer from harbor frieght for $189. includes lights and all even title to take to the dmv. has a payload of 990 pounds i believe. it works for me, just light camping gear and my quad. if you build it, mkae sure you can show where the axle came from. if you bought the axle you will need a reciept. reserch it on the DMV site and you should find the info more specific.

If you're going to scratchbuild any sort of trailer, I seriously recommend that you review your state's Vehicle Code, as it pertains to trailers.

You may also want to peruse FMVSS, to find out what sort of brakes you might need. Lighting should be fairly obvious - stop/turn/tail and number plate lamps.

While you're going over the VC, make sure you don't need any "side clearance" lamps, or anything silly like that.

And, you can always tilt up the front A-frame (where the hitch goes) or gooseneck it if you need to to reach your ball mount. Or, do a drop ball mount. I honestly think trailers shouldn't be made too high - not for any legal or safety reason, but because it can make them difficult to load...

the harbor freight trailer is probably the route im going to go. i just wanted a trailer for my cross country move in february. once i buy steel and invest my time welding a frame it'll b cheaper to buy from HF. thanks for the heads up on HF.

Please understand all you can about towing and building trailers before putting one on the road. A neighbor downthe street (more a bum living with his parents rebuilding pieces of crap and try to sell them) HAD a car dolly he towed his cars with. The "hitch" was a bolt through the reciever he though would be a good idea to use after the tongue split in half. The stupidity of some people is dumbfounding.

Needless to say his dolly is gone.
