Getting towed home from Pauma Valley. Thank god for AAA 200 mile tows!

I was up at my buddy's ranch, one u-joint was making noise, changed the shaft, went to test it, the other side spit out a u-joint. Changed that side. Went to leave, the front axle started smoking around the u-joint on the left front.

Decided tearing down both sides of the D30 in one day was enough, and it was getting dark. Got the Jeep towed home.

Now I'm carless until I get this one fixed.

I have some time John, if you are working on it tomorrow let me know and i'll head up. an extra pair of hands can't hurt :D

also dont forget you can just pull the front drive shaft, seperate the stub shafts from the inners, and put the stubs back in to drive around in 2wd. that would at least get you mobile again.

Thanks John, I don't think I can get back down to Temecula though.

Grimm I may call you in a bit if my buddy can't come by.

i may be heading to the junkyards tomorrow now, a buddy of mine is up from SD to help me pull axles. call me anyway, i'll see what i can do.

Ok.

I think I may be going 2wd for now.

John....just put a 44 in! :D

You buying? :D

For now, I just want it to drive so I have a DD when I'm in Ca.

After I graduate... we'll see what goes in.

If it ain't one thing, its another...

Fixed the shafts, no problems with that now, but I drove it and I'm still getting a vibe/grinding noise from somewhere.

It appears the fan is rubbing the shroud a bit, I think my trans mount might be done again.

Well, I'm out of Ca for a few months guess it will have to wait.

your thanks to the AAA crew is appreciated. i spend at least 12-14 hours in a AAA tow truck everyday, it gets old after a while (15years or so)but glad to see we are appreciated. You didnt forget to TIP your driver did you? sorry to here what happened hopefully you can get it back up and runnin soon.

John if your trans mount is bad 10 bux says at least one of your motor mounts is junk too.

The mounts are MORE and were done 2 years ago, I need to check and make sure they're tightened down. At least the rubber bushings are replaceable on them.

I wish I had an automatic sometimes, they seem to wear better due to less drivetrain shock.

Tipped him 20 bucks and offered to buy him dinner along the way, but he wouldn't let me pay for that.

I really appreciate being able to get the 200 mile tow. The membership paid for itself.

Soon... probably not.

that tow prolly paid for your next 5 years of membership or so. we get about $450 for 100-125 miles

....You didnt forget to TIP your driver did you? .....

  You're supposed to tip the tow truck driver????????????

Making a funny joke now... Is it because of the quality conversion you get while being towed home??????????? Or because is it they don't rob you???? :D

I never knew this..

dude we risk out ass to get yer ass off the freeways, get your car open after you just locked your kid in it, change your tire because you dont want to get dirty etc. in other words providing a service. about a 1/3 of my weekly salary is generated from tips. do you tip your bartender? sure you do. then why not tip a tow driver after picking you up and towing you home from the bar. average tips are 5-10 bucks (some get real generous and toss ya a 20) depending on how pleased you were with response time, care of your vehicle etc. there are a lot of people that didnt know you were suppose to tip.
