Just picked up this Clean M416 today!!

There's NO title for this thing. No VIN# either. I did get a bill of sale from the previous owner. Hopefully I can get this thing Tagged, Titled, and Registered for a plate. I dont want to get hastled by the fuzz if I decide to tow this thing somewhere.

With it being ex-military and a 1966, I hope there isnt any issues I run into.

You will have to go through the process of getting a MVIN. Police check, trip to BMV to get MVIN, have the # stamped on the tongue, police re-check. Fairly easy to get done. You can also have a trophy shop make a plate with the MVIN and rivet it to the tongue.

I never plated the M416 I used to have and I dragged it all over the place.

I really liked that trailer, but it really wasn't good for much. If I drove my jeep to the trails/camping, it would be perfect. I did have 1100 lbs of scrap steel in it once.

its hauled a lot of wood and a few axles since then. lol.

Phil: I noticed yours still has the data plate on the rear of it like ours did....Give me A phone call and I will explain on the back channel how we got ours registered in the communist state of Illinois.

Got the VIN application process started so hopefully this will be plated and legal very soon.

No VIN won't stop me working on this though. Before I start on making it look pretty I need to get it road/highway worthy. Axle, suspension, wheels, tires are top priority right now.

Tear down has started:

Took the tongue off to lengthen it so backing up is easier and then have more room to mount things outside the tub.

Yes sir it is. The main points of focus are the reliability, function, and safety of the trailer. Appearance comes in dead last.

It could look good but if it doesn't last 100 miles on the road there, it does no good.

I am trying to keep the original axle because I like the manual parking brake feature, and it still works. I have to figure out a plan for tires. I have an idea but I still have to try it out.

I still have the original axle in mine. If you ever put a tent on it you will realize in a hurry how great that parking brake is.

There is a company making electric brakes that uses the manual brakes too somehow. I can't remember who it is but that would be the best of both worlds.

Seriously, make sure the bearings are good and well greased, the lights are functional and honestly....what else could go wrong? It's not like they have a ton of mechanical parts on them.

Yes I love how simple they are.

I am thinking of extending the tongue and still using the lunette/wedge assembly. More length would help backing up and add more tongue space for gear. I'm also planning to add a spare tire carrier to the rear of the WJ so I need the extra space to get that to swing open.

Got lucky and found mine almost completly built exactly the way I wanted. I really haven't had to do too much. This was how it looked the day I had it delivered (from texas by some very nice peeps I might add)

Since then the only thing I have really done is took off all the Pelican boxes he had all round the trailer except the two on the back. Added a rack that went between the Thule rack and my tent, put the tent on obviously, added a battery and electrical crap (lights in the tent and above the back kitchen area and a couple 12v plugs), some gas struts to make raising and lowering the tent easier and took the 35s off and put 33s on to match my jeep.

Don't have a write up on it or anything, this is the best photo I have of how it sits right now.
