Junk Yard Parts Finds/Requests

I found a lightly picked 88 MJ in the Fresno pick n pull today. fairly straight black shortbed with tail lights, no tailgate, slider rear window, decent gray bench seat, straight pass fender with badges.

when you say badges, you don't happen to mean the "metric tonne" badges do you? if they are, i'll pay you double what the yard wants plus shipping to go back and peel em off for me (fishing line works great to saw the glue out from behind em).
 
no, not the metric ton unfortunatly. I believe it was the pioneer (and comanche) badges. Driver's fender was gone already
 
saw an 86 xj with a high pinion D30 under it at the oceanside ecology today. engine was a V6 and the rear was a D35, but the D30 may be of use to someone. good hunting.

LCQ Pick Your Part charges $200 for a truck axle plus another ~$50 in taxes, environmental fees, grease fees, spooge fees, etc. If you get an axle with disc brakes they will try to charge you extra for the calipers and pads too, running the bill up over $300.
 
Here's the receipt from when I pulled an 8.8 out of the LCQ yard. It was 100 degrees out, I was bleeding and too tired to argue.

If theyre gonna nickel and dime you, nickel and dime them first!

XJ's are not trucks, so when telling them what kinda axle... that looks like a mustang rear axle to me.... that should save you $20+.

If they start that charging for brake pads shit, pull them right there in line, and leave them there. Ive been told i needed to pay a core charge on brake parts before... i dont think so.

Thanks, That is still better than the ones I've seen for sale on craigslist. What did you pull it out from?

I agree. I pulled a t-case out of Santa Fe Springs Ecology and the final price was reasonable without all of the extra BS fees. I had to go to Pick Your Part for the axle because I couldn't find the right one at Ecology.

i had the same issue. i just waited it out for months and months until i found one with 4.10s AND on half day :D
 
pick your part always does that they charge you for whatever the guy behind the counter can identify. I usually pull the calipers and toss the rotors too because those are things i'd replace with new anyway. ecology has an "axle - complete" price and like cheapcherokee said the price is way better.

the 8.8 you want to look for is out of a 98 or later ford explorer. it will have disc brakes and 9 times out of 10 it will have a limited slip in it. they also put them in rangers and mustangs but they are too narrow to put under an XJ. as a bonus if you decide you don't want the limited slip the mustang guys snatch em up off craigslist pretty quick.

96-2000 I believe are the correct years. At a certain point they went IRS except in the Explorer Sport Trac where they kept the solid rear axle.
