WOOT! The place I work for just posted FULL TIME openings! God, I need that SOOO bad!
I've been working for a big corporation through a temp agency for over a year now. They finally posted a few job openings. It's me against 30 other temps. I really need this! Me and my family would be so much better off. You guys pray for me!

No, if they pick me they'll walk up to me while I'm working, hand me a red folder and tell me that they need to know wether or not I accept by the end of the week. I won't know when they decide until they hand me that folder.

The only thing that will make me stand out amongst the crowd is the word of my coworkers and what my supervisor has observed of me and my resume.

I think I've got a pretty good shot. The last time they did anyhiring was about a week after I started last year... so I really wasn't considered in that bunch.

Hopefully this time will be different.

I ve been doing contracting for 15 years now.. the 1st time i got a full time job i got laid off 9months later..
theres no such thing as a "secure" full time job these days..

You're correct. For last year business has been holding strong. So, hopefully it'll stay that way. They did have a huge layoff around 2008-2009.

meanwhile, i'm going back to the shiddy minimum wage job that i quit in february because it sucked so bad. i got a summer job, then got laid off, and have been without so musch as an interview for six months, so when i went back to this job, they said, sure- we'll hire you back, but instead of $8.50 an hour, we'll give you $7.25.
i guess i don't have any other options, though, since i'm a college student stuck with part time jobs, and NOBODY else would even give me an interview. not even fast food joints.
i guess i'll be washing dishes for a while. if anybody sees a guy in a dark blue 2door 4cylinder xj on 31's in the next 30 minutes, kill him on site. you'd be doing him a favor.

yeah, there are some temp agencies here, but they only want to find full time work for people. as soon as i get out of college, if i can't find something in my field, which seems pretty likely, i'll probably start looking for factory work- or whatever i can get. i'm still hoping that by this time next year, things will get a little better. sorry i got on here and whined about my job. hell, when i think about things, i realize that i'm super lucky to have even got what i did, and that all i had to do was ask, instead of competing with 500 other people who would gladly cut my throat for it. i just needed to vent for a bit, i guess.

Manufacturing is slowly starting to come back. Really depends on what is being manufactured though. Saw business pick up some at my internship this summer, and from what my old man says, business is picking up at the plant he works at as well.
