Jet Chip?

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ with a 4 inch pro comp lift and 31/10.5 inch tires. And since I added the bigger tires I have noticed a little loss of power when I am driving up hill. I already have an airaid intake and a throttle body spacer and I am thinking about getting a jet chip. I was wondering if getting a jet chip is really worth it or should I invest in something else?

ROTFLMAO!!

are you serious....

search "regear"

I have a jet chip for sale for 100 shipped that will fit your xj. I have a 99 xj with 8" lift 35" tires and 4.56 gears. I noticed much better shift points which gives you a little extra umph. As of pure power I dont know, I dont think youd notice anything with my 35s. Youd notice it better stock to say about a 31" tire. The only reason Im selling it is because Im selling my jeep and taking some of the goodies out of it, you can see my jeep in the FS section.

i'd like advice from somebody who knows what they are talking about because there is no point in regearing for 31's.

Well, thats probally why you only have 2 posts, you already know everything

Essentially what the Jet chip is doing is changing the computers timing curve. The temperature tells the computer as to when the engine is at temp and with the O2 sensors provide a properly air/fuel ratio. At the same time, the Jet chip advances the spark. So with a hotter spark, slightly more fuel to air ratio, the result is then more HP.

Part of the requirement is to be able to ingest more air and to expel the same. This is one reason that Jet has 2 chips, one for unmodified and one for modified. The unmodified uses stock air and exhaust settings and provides a marginal HP and MPG gain. The modified provides large HP gain and maybe a MPG gain.

Hypertech uses a reprogramming chip to essentially reprogram your computer to take advantage of modified intake/exhaust vehicle. One chip will allow the use of regular fuel and the other will use high octane fuel.

Is it worth the money? Stage 1 will give you some moderate gains without modifications. Stage 2 will perform best with air and exhaust modifications. If you are looking at it for MPG gain, it is definitely NOT worth the investment because you may or may not even get a MPG gain. Depends on driving habits, age of engine, and mods to engine.

Can you feel the torque gain? If you are physically tuned to the performance of our vehicle, yes. You will feel the difference. Can you beat your buddy in the Viper off the line with it, don't count on it.

Is it going to compensate for going from 28" tires to 31" tires, No. It WILL help, but not as significantly as regearing will.

Yes I had one and I outgrew it. I now use the Hypertech programmer, as it will allow more flexibility for my particular mods.

Hope this answers your question.

Ahhh, I missed that is was time for the monthly "will this ebay special make my Jeep into the racecar I treat it as" thread. First day of the month too, right on time.

And they say newbs don't pay attention, how would he know it was time for a Jet chip post if he wasn't paying attention?

Regear...pfft. My tornado does more than your regear, and for less $$$ too!

*sigh*

i have a jet chip, and at first i couldn't tell a difference. then about a few miles down the road it kicked in. makes sure you disconnect the battery and follow the instructions, don't just plug it on. OTOH, its not that much of a difference. i'd spend your money somewhere else, like gearing... even tho you find it not necessary. i ran 4.56's and 31's and it was crazy zippy! i luvd it! or i'd spend the $$ on a crazy CD headunit. the chip is not worth it, unless you can pick one up for like $20.

CDenny, you would immediately regain that sense of lost power by regearing. If you don't want to spend the money, you can gain some horses through a variety of mods, many of which are listed on these two pages:
Gojeep

Dr. Dyno

You don't have to spend a lot of money, but the more you spend the more you gain...
