:flame:I have a stock 87 XJ Limited that when it gets hot it will quit??
I have a 165 degree thermostat in it, new water pump Belt is new, Rad is new.
I just put a new fuel pump in. One guy said if the fuel pump is going bad it will quit when it gets hot, not the answer. I ran it for about 45 minutes and it was about 185 the fan was on and it stops at a stop sign. Cooled down and started up. Put it on a Snap-On tester and it said all was fine.
It has left me sitting three times. Put in a new coil but had not tested it yet on road, after I put in the new coil it wouldn't start but went back out and changed the old coil in and still didn't start. Hour later it started up.
Can some of you all help out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you

The CPS followed by the coil like the man said.

After you get this ironed out, change your thermostat to the recommended 195*. It will run better and get better mileage.

X2 I had a 180 in mine and it would never get up to operating temp. Got horrible gas mileage and had no heater. So I put a 195 in the other day, much better.

i went thru similar problems on my 92 xj...i went thru alot of crap and finally changed the computer and havent had problems since...but i did go thru and do all the testing that is on the site....just couldnt chase it down until a friend took his computer out and we put it in mine...and it run great, put my computer in his and it would reach 210 degrees and die....same as it did in mine.

Sounds like the crank sensor. Get it into the fault condition and test the crank sensor--200 ohms resistance + - 75 ohms, or a range of 125~275 ohms.
