Yah, those adjusters are getting paid to say yes to every claim amount, fair or not. I had to play hardball with one when my loaded 97 Dodge Dakota V-8 ext cab 4x4, was totalled.
A lady turned in front of me in a wide open intersection where i had the right of way, had a 5 foot skid pad before the impact at 30 mph. I wasnt wearing seat belt, no airbags(previously deployed i guess), and talking on my cell phone...I still thank the sun visor for keeping my head from busting the windshield out, but, overall i was fine...lesson learned, always wear my belt now.
They tried offering me bottom dollar for my dodge, like $5500. I told them i needed enough money to replace it with an equal valued truck, that being another dakota of the same options. I did a search within 300 miles for this and sent him the results and told him to call me when the check for $8500 was ready. Also, when they write the check they are buying the vehicle from you and sales tax will be added.
So, with sales tax added, i ended up with $8600.
