hello:

i have a 1996 XJ stroker Turbo and the original ECU die¡¡¡ now in my country i only found in a junkyard a 1996 Grand Cherokee (4.0 L6) and i install this¡¡¡

the engine rev pretty good for a few seconds and then the engine shut down¡¡

now some body know the ecu wiring diagram to make this ECU works properly??

please give me a hand¡¡¡¡

many thanks¡¡

I could be wrong, but I believe in the cherokee the transmission has a stand alone controller and the ECU is not hooked up to the trans. In the Grand Cherokee the ECU controls the trans. Also the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee use different automatic transmissions. So if your trans is not hooked up the the new ECU it will probably give you problems. I have no idea how to wire up the Cherokee trans to the Grand Cherokee ECU.

ECU is not compatible. You would have to replace all engine and dashboard wiring, the transmission controller, the gauges, and probably some sensors

Engine sensors would be the same, with the exception of the CPS. Main problem is that the ZJ PCM has the transmission computer integrated into it along with some ZJ specific stuff like the VIC.

Get an XJ PCM.

the jeep is M/T but in my country there is no ECU replacement for this model...is a rare XJ...is 1996 OBDII Manual Trans...maybe it is fabricated in Canada or Something...but is not the normal model...then i cant nort use the normal OBDI ECU and the OBDII ECU are all for A/T...so damn this is a f..g problem¡¡¡¡¡

They're right... ZJ PCM will not replace an XJ one for that year. The only year it MIGHT work on is an early 93 ZJ PCM vs a 93 XJ M/T ECU, and even then I am not sure.

If you can find a way to import one, I will send you one next time I find one. I have no idea how to do international mail and 96 M/T XJs are not common around here though.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend. Someone on these boards may be able to get you a correct PCM, and ship it to you.

I have a 96 m/t XJ and I bought my dad a 96 m/t XJ, so there are some around. My spare pcm is from a 97 XJ w/ m/t and it works fine(so I'd be inclined to say a 98 m/t pcm would work as well).

Looks like I spoke too soon. Just saw a 96 2dr with the MT in my local yard, I pulled and hid the ECU in case you want it.

Part number is 56041 293, 217229 miles, vin is 1j4fj67s9tl246253. They want 50 for it, add shipping and it is yours. See if you can find a 97 MT one first though like gradon said.

Post a pic of your Jeep J, because your 96 model might look like the state's 97 model. Also, what is the build date(check the door jamb)? I'm willing to sell and ship the 97 pcm to you, but I'd want to buy the 96 pcm that Kastein just found.
