Hi,

I'm new here, and actually just purchased my 1998 Cherokee Sport a few days ago. Everything works just fine, but there is some type of medium-high pitch noise coming from the engine. It increases in volume along with throttle application. I thought it could be a bad tensioner bearing or something...does anyone know what it could be? My buddy said it sounds like the intake area of the engine. Doesn't sound like anything is damaged, just annoying when I drive.

btw, 132k miles

Oh yeah, does this engine have timing belt or chain? When do I replace? Fuel filter...is it easy? I need a manual...

You should post this in OEM tech...

If it's a whistling type noise that's pretty common and is nothing to worry about.
You have a timing chain, mine is origional and I have 155,000 miles. If the fuel filter is in the same place as my '93(on the driver's side frame rail near the fuel tank) it's simple to change.
