JCR rocksliders?

Are the JCR rock sliders any good? I noticed that they are only held on with self tapping sheet screws? I would think they should be held with bolts through the uni-frame with a nother piece of metal on the other side and a nut.
But they are cheap.
 
i run them, and would run them again. almost all rock sliders i see are self tappers. they arent weak. and it isnt only self tappers anyway, there are like 5-6 bolts that attach to the pinch seam and are secured with a nut. ive never heard a bad word about the JCR sliders. theyre stout.

I have them... Well half installed (one side)....I am happy with them...

Very heavy duty... Each one ships as a UPS heavy package (50+ pounds)

They do not flinch with me standing on it.... Only time will telll if they hold up to wheeling.

What I have noticed was the pinch seam holds the legs against the frame rail so if you do pull the self tappers out you have pulled the pinch seam out by over an inch.

I think that if you are pulling these off with all 13 mounting points you have serious body damage.

I to was worried about self tappers but only a few companies offer options other than self tappers and they are very pricey compared to JCR.

I've got the JCR Sliders, and thought the same thing until I went and saw them. After seeing them I bought a set of the stage 2 sliders. No problems and have no worries with the attachment. The pinch seam attach points give it the strength. I've had to touch up the paint so mine have been used/abused and no body damage. If you still have questions call them, I'm sure they will take the time to answer all your questions.

Not sure where you got your info on the self tappers. Above is a direct quote from their website. I have JCR's stage 2 sliders and love them. I have repeatedly beat the crap out of them and they have held up great. I highly reccomend them. Brain and the fellas at JCR will treat you right.
 
I just put a set on. Overall I think they are a good product. They problem I had was one screw stripped out upon installing and I could only use three screws on each leg because of a hole in the unibody that was right where the self tapping screw is supposed to go.

Find a friend with a welder and have him/her tag the corner where the bolt is missing.

These things are stout! Have paid for themselves MANY times and saved my doorhandles/gutters several times.

Not too fun to put on by yourself though.... Be sure to get the correct one on the correct side(s) too!

They are self threading bolts.

3/8 self threading bolts... and I sure hope they work because they are $0.70 a piece :)

No problems yet with a ton of sets out there. Give us a call if you have any questions.

I now see what the original poster was referring to. I seen "self tapers" and thought he was referring to the pinch seam mounts. My bad for not throughly reading the post. As far as the $.70 3/8 self threaders, I do believe this is the attachment method for most XJ sliders on the market. I think if they were going to fail, I would have replaced them by now.:D
 
Uh oh, I might have to get a set. Damn, wifeys gonna be mad. It looks like stage 2 is the way to go.

Fer sure.

That extra tube has saved my door handles many many times as well. I like using them as a piviot point too. Here's a pic after a recent wheeling trip. I have a hard time keeping paint on mine.:D
